Glasgow Graduate School of Law Revises Criminology Master's Course

GGSL updates and adds modules to

Aug 15, 2006

The Glasgow Graduate School of Law (GGSL), a partnership between the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, has revised its Criminology and Criminal Justice MSc program (formerly the MSc in Criminal Justice).

The course now has three "core modules" from which MSc students select two. The modules include "Understanding Crime and Crime Prevention," "Understanding Punishment and Penal Practice," and "Understanding Research in Crime and Justice." Students must also complete a dissertation.

Andrew McKenna of the GGSL told LLM GUIDE that the need for "fresh thinking" about various aspects of criminal justice and criminology prompted the changes to the program.

"This kind of thinking can be encouraged by bringing together experienced practitioners from different criminal justice agencies and recent graduates of related disciplines," says McKenna. "Both kinds of students have much to gain from exposure to the most recent developments in criminological theory and research, in tandem with the dynamism generated from their engagement with each other, and with the team of academic experts delivering the course."
