I went there for the LLM 2 years ago. They provide great education. Most of the professors have outstanding cv and have very important role in Japan; i.e. Hisako Levin Kobayashi sensei-she teaches IDR, she has been known as one of the leading mediator in japan. we all love her.

Thanks for the info raniputri! I would love to attend this program, since I think Kyuushu is really one of the best law schools in Japan as you were saying. If you don't mind my asking, do you have a sense of what kind of grades they require for admission? Anyway, thanks again for the info. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who appreciated it!

The LL.M. Program is taught on a full time basis and takes two semesters for completion, beginning in October every year and ending in July of the following year.

I see. I must have read wrong. I checked the link. Too bad they only offer business related courses. Im interested in public law, human rights, and anti-corruption measures. Mon Jan 15, 2007 03:23 PM The University seems nice though. [Edited 15 Jan 2007 by fknandrew] |

Nice to hear from you.Sun Apr 27, 2008 06:52 PM I am advocate from Ukraine and very interested in peculiarities of international business law in Asian market. Why did you choose Kyushu Uni? Do you have other options in LLM programs or its your final choice? Did you apply for the Japanese government scholarship? |

Nice to hear from you too.Sun Apr 27, 2008 10:34 PM I only applied to the Kyushu LLM program because it is the only one of its kind in Japan. I'm quite interested in Japan (I have lived there before and my wife is Japanese) and wanted the opportunity to study Japanese law from a comparative perspective. I am planning to do my research on Japanese corporate governance. I have applied for the scholarship! I look forward to seeing you there in October! |

Hi everyone! Tue Aug 26, 2008 06:29 PM I can't decide which law school to choose. I am admitted to a research study in Kyushu University, Nagoya University and Yokohama National University as well. I only applied these law schools since they have English programs for international students. I am planing to start an LL.D program upon completion of my research. I am thinking about the job opportunities such as summer internships in a Japanese or an international law firm in Tokyo. And also housing and the living cost... I will greatly appreciate if you have any suggestions. Thank you! |

Hi,Fri Sep 19, 2008 10:28 PM I am a Japanese lawyer. In my opinion, Nagoya University is the best. This is because of the number of lawyers who have graduated from those universities. I can suggest Kyushu University and Yokohama National University have few alumni of lawyers. On the other hand, Nagoya University has moderate number of alumni of lawyers. |

Hi all,Mon Nov 10, 2008 04:00 AM Not here to comment on which university have the most number of lawyers... hahaha im sure tokyo university or kyoto university would have the most from among the Imperial Universities. Unfortunately, not all Universities here in Japan are offering a true LLM course. Most are just hybrid local Master of Laws courses with a sprinkling of english subject. One quick comment though, Yokohama National University doesnt have a law college. What it does have is a graduate school for international social science www.ynu.ac.jp/department_en/dep_index.html . So be careful if your are aiming for an LLM. If your curiosity was piqued about this whole Japanese Imperial Universities (supposedly top National Universities in Japan - doesn't include waseda of keio universities because they are private universities), a simple comparative table is here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Seven_Universities Happy hunting. |

Personally, I think the comment of the Japanese lawyer is a bit irrelevant. If we look at the ratio of the graduates of the English LL.M. program that have started to work in Tokyo, we have to conclude that most of them have started working for a foreign law firm. I really wonder whether there are so many Nagoya lawyers working in these law firms.
