Response: Georgetown Tax LL.M.
Dear Colleagues, Sun Feb 05, 2006 01:59 PM I am a third-year law student who recently applied to Georgetown's Tax LL.M. through the Early Action process. Last week (2/2), I recieved a letter from Georgetown which stated the Admission Committee had reviewed my application but was unable to reach a decision until it could review my Fall 2005 semester grades (not available when I applied). I checked my Georgetown admission account online and it showed my application status under "Decision." At the risk of sounding neurotic, are there other applicants who recieved the same letter? Are there third-year applicants who recieved an acceptance letter without having to provide their Fall grades? Are there any current Georgetown tax law student who could provide insight into this letter? In particular, is a request for an updated transcript simply a formality prior to admission or is the Admissions Committee really on the fence and looking for something that will ultimately make their decision? Please let me know if you have any thoughts on this. I appreciate it. Cheers and good luck to all the 2006 LL.M applicants. |

Well, it is normal considering you did have not obtain a law degree (J.D.) when you applied

Most of the LL.M. I applied also requested my fall grade.Mon Feb 06, 2006 03:06 AM I think this is not the signal of being admited nor rejected. They just want to consider the most updated of your profile. One more thing, I am not JD student. But I think they treat all applicants in the same standard. [Edited 06 Feb 2006 by pra608] |

Thanks for your posting. As for rankings, NYU, Georgetown and Florida are the top schools for Tax programs. I'm not much into ranking beyond a certain point. These are the top three in the U.S. as far as I know and which one is higher then the other is not a concern of mine.Mon Feb 06, 2006 11:24 PM But if you're interested in coming out to sunny California and finding some good surf along the way, UC San Diego and Loyola are great schools with tax LL.M programs as well. They are not ranked as high as the other three but hey, they're in the best state in the union! Good luck with your admissions process. [Edited 06 Feb 2006 by finavara] |
