I have officially lost my mind with worry... I'm of the opinion that the Traditional LLM seats are full now... Still praying that, that's not the case.

Did anyone get rejection letters? I am wondering if those who haven't heard yet can assume that they haven't been accepted?

I'm a European lawyer and I'm waiting for a reply from NYU regarding LLM in International Legal studies, has anyone yet gotten in to that program?? As far as I can see it's only traditional LLMs and Tax ppl who have been notified of admissions...Sat Mar 10, 2012 10:36 PM I've been admitted to UVA, but NYU is higher on my list of preferred schools... I asked NYU to please give me a decision soon so I can decide about UVA. |

@PaulaK, same here, I'm from South America still waiting to hear about the International Legal Studies Program. It would be great to know if someone has received acceptance emails for this particular Program. Anyways, I think monday is D-Day for some of us who are still hanging in there... Sat Mar 10, 2012 10:52 PM All the best!! |

Just so I'm clear: no one's heard from NYU regarding International Taxation, right? Because I know domestic Taxation has been out for a couple of weeks now - International Taxation (for foreign lawyers, specifically), that I haven't seen anything about.Sat Mar 10, 2012 11:20 PM I've applied for the LLM in International Taxation... And I'm on the same boat: (1) hoping no results on International Taxation have been released as of yet and (2) hoping Monday is the day. For a positive result. |

Do you know any foreigners who were admitted to domestic taxation program? I thought only US students've got their offers so far. |

@Yuda, I think they're all really great schools whichever you choose. NYU and Columbia offers their students to take some courses at the other uni. And their location in NY is good for connections with the UN for example, at least that's what I imagine. Columbia belongs to the Ivy league schools if that matters to you.Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:05 AM Georgetown on the other hand, also great curriculum in international law and located in D.C it's close to the government institutions and several IGOs and NGOs with offices in D.C. The US News ranking isn't the only thing to go after. Look at their curriculum and faculty and the schools' profiles, what they wish to highlight about themselves. You can also look at what they offer outside of just course selection, journals/reviews, clinics, externships/ internships etc. Just because NYU is ranked at nr 1 doesn't mean it's the best choice for everyone. If you're a foreigen trained lawyer Georgetown requries you to do the "summer course" in american law from mid July. This has both good and negative aspects, depending on your point of view. All in all, I don't think you can go wrong with either one of these schools. Just look at what fits you best and perhaps which can give you the best deal. |

@Yuda, agree with PaulaK. I would say a sensible approach to rating a program, leaving aside popular rankings is to look - among other things - at the faculty. What do they write about? What have they done? How are the courses structured? Maybe you find that one school has star lecturers on your particular areas of interest. Also very important: internship opportunities. I know that both NYU and Columbia are very strong in this area. Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:55 AM Admittedly, I am not as familiar with Georgetown's Program. I considered it but decided not to apply last minute because I had already been admitted to Columbia. However, even though rankings are just one aspect to consider, I'm sure there has to be solid basis to support Georgetown U' Program being placed high up in the International Law Rankings. |

Interesting insights all around. My guess (and it is just a guess), is that NYU is the best place for International law LLM because: 1- It is ranked #1 (by the only study I have seen on the topic), 2- Location in NYC, 3- Explicit emphasis on creating a "community of scholars" (Hauser programs etc.). So, NYU seems to have created their own success intentionally and because they actually offer some funding, I expect "the best" scholars will regularly choose NYU over other top schools (sometimes even over Yale and Oxford/Cambridge). Sun Mar 11, 2012 12:49 PM Georgetown's JD program is ranked just outside the top-10 (14 maybe). But, it seems that the top 8 to 15 are still extremely good quality overall (there seems to be a bit of a gap after that). But for LLM, I think Georgetown is probably even better due again to: 1- Location in major Int'l city, 2- Notable focus on international law, and 3- It seems they offer some funding too. Columbia's LLM program is "general", which kind of confuses me. Shouldn't they be either "academic" (like Yale or McGill), or else "specialist/practical" (like NYU tax, or any of the various specializations, IP, ADR etc.)? The idea of offering a "general" LLM, without any particular focus on publication or specialization seems odd. Still, Columbia has 1- Proximity in NYC, 2- Ivy League affiliation and consistently high ranking in law and other academics, and 3- An extensive network of "extracurricular" activities (journals, speaker series etc.). In the end, it's probably like choosing between sports cars: Ferrari Modena, Lotus Elise or Audi R8... (probably an R8 is better because of price, speed and reliability... but I think I am both digressing...and taking the analogy too far...and the examples don't make sense in terms of "mapping" onto the various schools... ok, I really better stop there.)
