Sat Apr 01, 2006 10:15 AM God damn it (sorry) - how long shall we wait more???? Contrary to a lot of assumptions in this board it is obvious that students who have not received an offer from cam so far, only have a chance, if the early receivers defer. The deadline to accept the offer expires in one week |

Thanks Jimmy for your information.Sat Apr 01, 2006 11:11 AM But i would like to know the grounds of your comment. why is it so "obvious"? I called the Admission stuff yesterday and one of them told me that many offers were made currently. |

I strongly doubt that people who have not received an offer yet will only stand a chance if others reject or defer. I think perhaps it is true that they are waiting for responses before giving out letters, but i am sure there will be a core number of students who have been given a firm offer but will only be notified along with everyone else. Sat Apr 01, 2006 04:27 PM The only thing that's "obvious" is that the long wait is becoming unbearable! Good luck to all waiting! |

Sat Apr 01, 2006 07:19 PM am_s: perhaps... but the admission office and other posters contradict that assumption. Last year the majority of Cambridge offers went out at the end of the first week of April. This timing makes sense, given Oxford's offers went out last week. |

jw, I apologise for not being clearer - I was disagreeing with the poster who said that people who don't have offers yet will only have offers depending on the responses given by those who have already been offered a place. I suppose I'm not being very clear here either(!) - but essentially I agree with you that the timing makes sense as I know most applicants haven't heard anything yet. |

I am really fed up with all these assumptions...People, believe me, I know few people from BOGS and Law Faculty personally and I have recently asked them about this matter. They would not lie me! Many decisions (both offers and rejections) will be made this or next week. My opinion is not official but it is according to the most reliable sources. Howgh!

There was an faculty admissions board meeting about 2 weeks ago. I would imagine from what I have heard alot of the decisions were made then. Decisions to admit to the LLM in Cambridge are not made very day. It is simply not feasible for that to happen.

I've been completely unimpressed by Cambridge's admissions procedure. Friends of mine received offers in mid-Jan and I still haven't heard word, one way or another. I think Oxford's system - of sending them all out at the same time - makes much more sense. Oxford had a later admissions deadline, more information to read, and yet got back to us long ago. I was made a offers at the colleges at UoL to which I applied, including one offer with a significant merit scholarship. I was also made an offer at Oxford for the BCL. Regardless of the outcome of my Cambridge application, I've decided not to go there and to accept one of my other offers instead. In my opinion, Cambridge's conduct with respect to LLM applications just confirms its reputation as not really caring about its LLM students and regarding the LLM solely as a cash cow.

I agree - Cam system really sucks.Mon Apr 03, 2006 09:35 AM I would accept everyting but knowing that some people were admitted yet in January is just killing - where is the logics? I can imagine when their scholarship decisions will arrive - end of September, just two days before the term, when the money is already paid to them:(( |

Dear Everyone,Mon Apr 03, 2006 02:49 PM I have just spoken to someone at the Law Faculty, whose words I highly value, and she told me that the reason for them deliberating so long on applications, is that they only have time to do so during holidays. They did half the job in the winter break, and now they are finnishing the rest. Taking into consideration that they have really limited sources for a relatively large number of applications it is understandable. In my views we all knew we are applying to a place that highly regards tradition and is very conservative. Cheers |

3 weeks!!!! Mon Apr 03, 2006 04:25 PM Last year they sent out decisions by 8 April. Anyway, it is just amazing - I wonder if there is any other institution in the world that declares its decisions on LLM so late. |

Wed Apr 05, 2006 03:18 PM So they appear to be sending out some more offers. Cowboy, am_s: was your selfservice updated to reflect your offer? or did you just receive the email (and your self service still says "applicant" ?) |

jw, Wed Apr 05, 2006 03:36 PM My self service page still says 'applicant'. The email is from the secretary to the LLM Admissions Committee. It says to expect a formal letter from BOGS soon, which will give further details regarding the academic conditions to be met etc. Good luck! |

Thanks, man!Wed Apr 05, 2006 03:58 PM It may be a foregone conclusion anyway, as I've already been admitted to Oxford, which I favour to Cambridge. By the way, was the email personalized at all, or did it seem like a mass email? Just wondering if they're sending them out in all at once, or in incremental bunches... |

Seemed like a mass email to me - as it doesn't give details of the condition to be met etc. But I think it may only be the Course Secretary with the responsibility to send them out so it may take some time for her to get through them all.Wed Apr 05, 2006 04:14 PM I favour Oxford too but I'd like to know the condition set by Cambridge before making up my mind for definite. Hello,Tue Apr 11, 2006 04:03 PM Called up the law faculty for any recent developments; the secretary for the LLM was charmingly helpful (Suzanne Wade) - was informed that they are STILL considering applications, in batches, and that basically there is no timetable as to when they will finish it. She said another two weeks possibly - but in the next breath mentioned 1st week of May! And we continue to twiddle our thumbs in our respective waiting rooms, feeling slightly nauseous... |
