Unfortunately, this is the reality.  I don&#39;t know many LLMs that really made it in a US law firm (became partners) without getting a JD.  You are right, I think you should not get a LLM if your goal is a permanent position in the US.    

BTW, some schools do count the credits of your LLM if you decide to get a JD.  Columbia is one of them.
