HI julius, i gather from the discussion that you finished your EMLE and with am erasmus mundus scholarship as well. I am very interested in the program but i am opting for an LLM in Sweden where the tuition fee is free and i only have to worry about accommodation, which i am planning to finance through scholarship (maybe SI) or part-time work in sweden (depending on the availability or possibility of jobs for foreign students in Sweden). DId i get it right that EMLE is financed through erasmus mundus scholarship and that admission to the EMLE is an automatic grant of the erasmus mundus scholarship? so that if i get accepted to the EMLE, it will likewise be fully financed as if i am on scholarship? thanks.

Yes, I did finish the EMLE program but not with the Erasmus Mundus scholarship. I can only talk about the situation for German student (although I think it was the same for all EU students) and only about how it was in 2001/2002. The only tuition we had to pay was an administrative fee of 250 EUR (I guess its more now) and all of the German students automaticaly were granted the 'normal' Erasmus/Sokrates scholarship (which is quite low, around 100 EUR a month I think). As I said I dont know how it works with the Erasmus Mundus as this a new scholarship scheme that has only been introduced recently.

thanks. i was actually checking on stockholm u where tuition is free and learned about the EMLE program where stockholm u is one of the participating universities. i just wasnt sure whether the "free tuition fee" applicable in most swedish universities also applies to the EMLE program. in any case, i guess 100euro will not be sufficient for living/accomodation expenses. : (

I think the mundus scholarship is more than 100 EUR as it is designed for people abroad. Check europa.eu.int/comm/education/programmes/mundus/ind…
for more.
Good luck!

Hello everyone!

I really liked all the "conversation" between you guys...
I'm in the same situation of Livia. I am brazilian and I intend to apply for the EMLE of 2006/2007. I hope I can be accepted... But I'll try to get a scholarship too...
The questions and answers were very helpful! :-)

Dear Marina and Livia,

I'm currently studying in the EMLE programme and I receive an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. I can ensure you that you have good chance to get such scholarship, because there are few Brasilians and Argentinas with scholarship. Off course, it's not so easy to be admitted for programme and be granted with scholarship. But if you have good qualification and are lucky you will get it for sure.

I very enjoy this programme, the international environment and the Hamburg university, where I'm spending my second trimester and wish you good luck in your application. Deadline is very close.

As far as third country applicants go- I was told that the Consortium's board on admissions decides a list of candiates(those who have been admitted and those admitted with scholarships) in febraury and forwards the same to the EU for confirmation. The EU confirms/rejects the same based on criteria like geographical distribution of students etc. Applicants are informed i their name figures on the list forwarded to the EU. All the best! !

Hello Applicants from third countries!

I've just read the Notice posted on the website of EMLE that "there will be no test for the academic year 2006/2007".

Cheers!

I think no matter where within the emle website you go, the address is always www.emle.org/index_org.html so just go to the emle site, click on "Application" and "Third Country Students". You will see that item (i) states:

i) In order to be able to make a final ranking of applicants who fulfill the application criteria, it might prove necessary to hold a test via the internet. In this test, the participants are requested to write an essay and/or answer questions on topics related to Law and Economics. The test will be made available through this website on a date and time that will be made known also through this website ultimately on January 31, 2006. Notice: there will be no test for the academic year 2006/2007.

The Joint Selection Committee has received 265 eligible third country applications, while for third country students there are only 36 places available in the programme (25 of them receiving an Erasmus Mundus scholarship; 11 of them without an Erasmus Mundus scholarship).
>The Joint Selection Committee has made a ranking of all applicants, and has constructed three lists:
>(1) applicants who are admitted to the programme (36 applicants, 25 of them are nominated for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship);
>(2) applicants who are put on a reserve list, in case admitted applicants withdraw (89 candidates);
>(3) applicants who are not admitted (140 candidates).
>
>You belong to the first list.
>
>The final ranking was made on the basis of the following criteria:
>
> * Academic record: level and results of the previous study
> (bachelor, master or otherwise), level of the grades, number of
> different studies and relevance of the studies for the EMLE programme;
> * Quality of the letter of motivation, e.g. does the applicant show
> affinity with the topic of the economic analysis of law;
> * Reference letters;
> * English proficiency.
>
>Many applicants have completed two or even more studies on a Masters level, in the field of law and/or economics. These applicants naturally ranked very high. As a result, applicants with one study and/or with a bachelor level only ended lower in the ranking.
>
>I congratulate you with your admission to the EMLE and your nomination for a scholarship. The European Commission has to approve the nominations, and we expect this approval half May, so then there will be a final decision on the scholarships.

I got my e-mail today and also I have been admitted, however I was not nominated for scholarship. Could you share a little bit of your credentials with us? your cv? Thanks a lot. Do you know if there is any deadline to accept the offer for admission?

Hi i've been accepted for the fall 05, I graduated in bologna and i can tell you that as law school it's one of the best in italy, maybe the first among the state universities. Besides the town has a great cultural life and u'll surely have fun there. From the other side don't ask me if the EMLE it's worth the cost, because i'm trying to discover it myself!

Hi there,
Is there anybody out there who has participated in the EMLE program offered by different European Universities? Did you have a positive experience in general? I do not really get the program structure, can you choose to go to any university for each of the three terms? Hope to hear from somebody..
Cheers

Hi Russ
Thanks for the link, actually I had already been on some of the university pages but could not find any personal experience student reports so if there is any EMLE alumni out there I would appreciate your comment.

Hey there-

I am trying to figure out if this is a program I would like to do myself for next year. I found some student experience statements on their website under the "student experience" heading.

I also spoke with a professor from Erasmus over the holidays and she seemed to think that you picked a different university each trimester, but after reading the website it seems like you can maybe stay in one of the cities for 2 of the 3 trimesters.

Hi Michael and george
When I did the EMLE program we were able to choose between Rotterdam and Hamburg in the first term and between Gent and Hamburg in the second term. Only for the third term were we given the option to go to any of the 15 participating universities. But I think nowadays you can also go to Bologna during the first and second term.

"The first trimester can be spent in Hamburg (Germany), Rotterdam (Netherlands), or Bologna (Italy); the second trimester in Hamburg, Ghent (Belgium) or Bologna (Italy); the third trimester in either Aix-en-Provence (France), Haifa (Israel), Hamburg, Linkoeping / Stockholm (Sweden), Madrid (Spain), Manchester (Great Britain), Rotterdam (Netherlands) or Vienna (Austria)"
At least this is what they say on LLMGUIDE..

That's programme for the following year, but u can have some general idea.
Have anyone heard is it possible to get scholarship for this programme? I would appreciate any info :)

Hello everyone,

I am also interested in the EMLE Program, but am wondering whether I have any chances to get admitted.. Does anyone of you know how tough the selection process is? My concern is my lack of a law degree. I have a BBA (with some economics) and am currently taking a masters course in finance. Any comments?

Hi Silja, The EMLE Program is open for lawyers and economist, so if you are an economist you should not worry.

Besides graduates in Law or Economics, also applicants with a first degree in business administration or in social sciences may apply under the condition that the completed study programme includes a substantial number of courses in law and/or economics. The above requirement with respect to employability in the labour market equally applies.
Students who have not yet graduated but expect to graduate before July of the year of application can also apply for admission to the EMLE programme. If such a student is selected for the programme, this is under the deferring condition that (s)he sends a copy of the diploma ultimately mid-July.

Hey,

Anyone out there starting the EMLE program in fall 2005?
I got an offer, but am still fudging.. My first choices of the locations were Bologna, Hamburg and Madrid. Is it really worth paying 7500 Euros? Any opinions?

I think it will be better to confirm about the deadline with the Consortium. I am a law student from India, I am studying for an Honours degree in law from one of the National Law schools here.
