Hi all,

I would also consider the LLM in International Commercial Law with a strong Oil and Gas Module as taught in Aberdeen. The module is newer, but the place is more prestigious than Dundee and the quality of the lecturers in Aberdeen is far beyon Dundee.

Best wishes

As a neutral in the Aberdeen-Dundee debate ( I did my doctorate at Edinburgh) a short comment.

Aberdeen is a ancient, well-established law school with a strong international reputation. That is undeniable. However, if you are obsessed with getting a job in the energy sector then in that sector, the Dundee Centre for Energy (CEPMLP) has a global reputation and is known and funded by most of the energy majors-in those circumstances I would go there.

Hi Roberto, nice to know that other brazilian colleagues are going to Dundee this year. I have been admitted to the LLM in Petroleum Law in Dundee and I work with natural gas sale, purchase and transportation agreements since 2000 in Rio. Where do you live in Brazil?

Thanks for your comment Dr Riley. I had this on my mind before choosing Dundee for my LLM. I am also considering to undertake an additional semester of the MsC in Oil and Gas Economics. The Dundee offers the called "dual degree" program and it is possible to get a MSc degree in six months after the completion of the LLM in Petroleum Law. I wonder if heard about that. Thanks. Ivan.

Hi guys,

it is nice to hear that you will be attending the CEPMLP. I will be doing LLM in Resources Law and Policy this year. My name is Aset and I am from Kazakhstan (those who are related to natural resources and oilgas should know the country :)).

Have you arranged any accomodations yet? I wanted to get a spot in brand new Belmont Flats but it is already packed.

Once again, nice to meet you!

Dear Philip,

Thanks for your interest in CEPMLP (Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy) at the University of Dundee.

Our admissions criteria for LLM are:
- a good 4-year degree, equivalent to a UK honours degree, preferably at upper 2nd class level or above. Preferred degree disciplines are Law, Economics, Geology, Petroleum or Mineral Engineering and Finance
- international students who are not from English-speaking countries should have a minimum English Language Proficiency level of IELTS 6.5, or TOEFL 603 or 250 on the computer-based test.
- Work experience in the energy or natural resource industries will be an advantage, while not stricty a requirement for LLM applications.

To see the LLMs we offer and full information on application requirements, please follow this link: www.dundee.ac.uk/cepmlp/main/html/academic/FT-LLM%…

Hello Zeeshan,

CEPMLP's LLM programme is designed for lawyers and non-lawyers to gain an understanding of the legal and regulatory environment and processes in the international energy and resources industries. It is suitable for those aspiring to be practising lawyers, legal advisers, contract managers and negotiators in these industries.

Some of our alumni has gone on to international law firms, international and state oil companies, joined government ministries, international organisations, financial organisations and banks, educational institutions, a couple even go on to head the relevant government ministries in their own countries.

While a good number of our alumni go on to be a lawyer, inhouse cousel or adviser, there are also others who go on to undertake the roles of business development, corporate strategy, negotiators, external affairs, analysts - just to name a few.

I hope you find this useful as this information here only provides generic examples. The industry offers a variety of job opportunites and your job prospects really depends on yourself at the end of the day.

Regards
