scotty: no news yet...nothing...
gonna wait for a week, and if there are still no news next week, then i'm sending my enrollment form to NYU...can't waste more time "paralyzed" because of CLS's silence.

anushka,

Why not simply call them? It is far more direct than sending a fax.

Good luck.

Do you think it wise to 'bother' them ? Maybe they want to feel "comfortable" about the application before sending an email ?

Hi, everyone, I am in the same situation and I paid my deposit to Georgetown to keep my place / deadline April 3/, but I prefer Columbia - it is not fair. Next payment is after 4 weeks and I hope to have an answer from Columbia until then:)

I honestly don't think a polite phone call would hurt.

hi saloman,

my "big admit" was the Fulbright-Case Fellowship Grant...... which is a full tuition waiver plus living expenses, med insurance, books, flight fare etc.

what i was seeking to stress earlier is that email might be a better way to getting thru the staff at columbia ...who in my experience have been very cordial and efficient thus far. i did get this reply within 48 hours of my email asking them to expedite my review...........sadly no aid:(

Dear Mr. __________:
I am pleased to inform you of your admission to Columbia University School of Law's 2006-2007 LL.M. program. Regretfully, we are unable to offer you any financial assistance. You were not awarded the 2006-2007 Appel Fellowship. It was a difficult decision. While we were impressed with your academic and professional credentials, there was a large pool of extremely qualified applicants. Unfortunately, we could only accept a small number of applicants. While we could not offer you the fellowship, we sincerely hope you will be part of our Class of 2006. Your deadline for receipt of the $500. tuition deposit is May 6, 2006.A formal letter will be sent to you next week. In the meantime, you can obtain information about the Law School and the University from our web sites: www.law.columbia.edu and www.columbia.edu. To access the Admitted Students website, go to www1.law.columbia.edu/llm_jsd/llmjsd_admitted . Click on “Login for Admitted GLS Students Home Page.” When prompted, enter the following case-sensitive information exactly as follows:

djvakil: congrats!
Will you be attending CLS?

As for me, still no news after the faxes I sent two days ago.

anushka: its a tough call. zero aid! i'm caught between the fulbright fellowship that pays for everything and has great reputation versus the "ivvy" tag of columbia which costs an arm and a leg:)

i would suggest u following up ur fax with an email. a lil pressure never hurt! i'm sure they'd understand its just a prospective students axienty.

Hi djvakil,

Thanks for your suggestion, I actually did that, at least to be sure the fax reached them...

Anyway, tough choice you got to make...

I would personally choose the fullbright option...In my case, since I havent received aid from the schools where I was admitted so far, I have to go for "ranking"...but if I had the opportunity of studying with such privilege of having everything covered (financially), I wouldnt think twice.

lol, seems like it. what i thought from columbia's email was that i did not get the fellowship and that they are still evaluating it for prospective candidates. i think u should wait till the end of april before ruling anything out. best of luck scotty!

and hey anushka..........do update us on ur columbia admission:)

I wonder if applying for financial aid adversely affects chances of admission. I filled out the form stating that I only had half the money required to do the LLM. A friend of mine did not apply for any financial assistance and was admitted over 6 weeks ago. His grades were not as high as mine and he has no legal experience.

I did not apply for financial aid but still didn't hear anything about Columbia neither.

Has anybody else heard about Columbia lately?
Thanks.

JDI:

That's pretty stupid. I've learned through this experience that admissions involves a lot of subjectivity and luck.

It's gone man... They won't be back. Columbia disintegrated during its reentry in the Earth atmosphere, on Feb. 1, 2003. I am sorry. Be strong.

PS : It's the second time that I do this joke on this forum (an maybe even in this very thread) but I can't resist...

jw,

do you really think so? I'm inclined to believe these schools are keen to make money, not give it away...

Sorry, i didn't mean your suggestion was stupid... I meant the fact that your friend had been admitted, and you not, at least yet, (give the comparison in credentials) was ridiculous.

Just received a very strange email from Columbia. It was completely blank for about a page, followed by Marietta LaFargue's address on the bottom. Not sure if something is wrong with my email. Did anyone else get this?
