hi ! Leiden LL.M. is very good . It has great vaue. Further it has top notch faculties and staff. But can u be more specific so as to in which particular line you are planning to pursue LLM . Once it is known then i may give u better idea. But in general LL.M. in Leiden is perfect.

I've just been admitted to Leiden ont the LLM European Law. Quite a surprise, they only require of me that I graduate in my French university in July.Fri Apr 07, 2006 02:38 PM Does anyone know whether Leiden is a good choice in EU Law? I know it enjoys a high reputation, but according to a law lecturer I talked to recently, Leiden is a bit "on the drop", in his words. |

Not so sure, I have heard many good things about leiden in PIL. The LLM is co-directed by John Dugard and Nico Schrijver, both of which are good experts. The staff generally look good too. Plus Leiden is located a few miles away from The Hague.Fri Apr 07, 2006 08:57 PM As far as international law is concerned, I would rather recommend Leiden. but I guess this is all about the good old Leiden-Utrecht rivalry. And since I've been admitted to Leiden (but I'm still awaiting a reply from Utrecht), I might well be slightly biased... |

Now Utrecht have admitted me as well to study in their European Law LLM. The godd old classical choice between Leiden and Utrecht is back again...Wed Apr 19, 2006 11:00 AM Do any of you know whether Utrecht is better than Leiden in EU Law? Leiden have the Common Market Law Review and a European law centre, and only require me to pay the home fees (1500 euros), whereas the UU fees are 9 000 euros. IS there any big gap between both unis in EU Law? |

etienne,Wed Apr 19, 2006 04:31 PM I would choose leiden. I've applied to utrecht too, but I'll choose leiden because the EU business law programme (that's my option) is more specifithan a general EUlaw programme like the one in Utrecht. It depends on what you are looking for and what you need from the llm. The CML Rev. is just something more, but no so relevant. good luck |

I'm actually applying for the LL.M. in European Law, not EU Business Law (but one of my friends will attend it). I can't see any big difference between Utrecht and Leiden as to the level of their respective general European Law programmes. It is just that UU allows for a wider range of courses, but I'm actually more looking for the classical EU law courses, which are all in Leiden's LL.M.Thu Apr 20, 2006 02:38 PM The fees will make the choice: Leiden it will be, then. |

Good choice, so see u in leiden! Sun Apr 23, 2006 07:10 PM I've been admitted too at uu, but it was since the beginning the second choice. I'm still waiting an answer from the colege d'europe, but I'm honest, it will be very difficult. good luck for your studies. nkl |

Hi, everyone! Wed May 10, 2006 05:15 PM I’m currently studying at Leiden University, Adv. European Business Law. What I can say? This place is very good. Programme definitely high-level; very qualified academic staff (Tax Law, WTO Law, Competition Law, etc.) One of the best scholars of Europe are teaching here. Moreover the course is very-very tuff and busy. It’s not a good idea to come to Leiden to get a fun! Be sure. But what I like best of all is that teachers are current practitioners on theirs fields (International Arbitration, WTO Law, etc.) By the way, recently I had Moot Arbitration in Peace Palace (the Hague) where Permanent Court of Arbitration located. And the president arbitrator was Marten Hunter! At least sun is shining in Leiden!!! ; ) |

Hi kemalThu May 11, 2006 11:04 PM I was admitted in leiden in European Law, but it is not what they call an "international master", even though they still call it an LLM (it's not the same as the EU Business Law one). From what I have heard so far, it is a good program, but I still have doubts: do you know people studying on that Master? Is it worth it? |

Tue Dec 12, 2006 10:36 PM Damn... Perhaps I should hurry up with my Applications :/ You have a while yet. I applied in September and didn't get a reply until late November. I was told this is because they were busy with the February intake, and those wishing to start in September '07 were put aside until the February applications were looked at. I assume this is not longer the case, and you could expect a response in about 3-4 weeks. You're also well advised to call the Law Faculty contact (on your application receipt letter) after this time, because an answer might be ready and they simply haven't sent it back to the International Office yet. (This is what happened in my case.) Chris |

As for Leiden's reputation, I have only heard good things thus far. Two qualified international lawyers I know tell me it's a good choice (and they know people who teach there) and two Dutchmen tell me it's the best uni in the Netherlands and one of the top in Europe.Tue Dec 12, 2006 10:39 PM As for rankings, which I don't particularly trust, it comes in quite high. The "famous" Jiao Tong University (Shanghai) World University ranking puts Leiden in the top 100 world-wide (nr. 72 to be exact) and 22nd in Europe (including the UK and Russia). It is also a member of a number of research leagues that bring together Europe's top schools. Europaeum, of which they are a member, has Europe's top 10 best universities (including Oxford, Bologna and Panthéon-Sorbonne). Everything I can find, at least, points to it being a good place to study law. It is also 10 minutes away from The Hague -- which might open some interesting networking possibilities. And to top it all off, Albert Einstein taught at Leiden. |

Well, I did hurry up with my applications and got admitted to Leiden as well. Also, I've got a positive answer from Amsterdam, still waiting for replies from Utrecht and Rotterdam (which, according to my sixth sense, will be positive as well).Sat Apr 14, 2007 09:29 AM Leiden staff is very impressive (Dugard, Blokker, etc), location is convenient (15 minutes from Hague, 30 from Amsterdam), and the town itself is very nice (at least from pictures :)). Ahh, I say let's all go to Leiden. I am from Lithuania by the way. It will be good to see people from all over the world in one place next year :) |
