I am a French trained lawyer and am interessted in commercial law, international arbitration and trade.

Looking forward to meeting you in NY this fall.

23, Irish, want to specialise in corporate subjects and some intellectual property and litigation. Would like to take Corporations, Deals, Transnational litigation, Mass Tort Litigation, Securities and some intellectual property courses. Ginsberg spoke at my law school last year and she was amazing so would love to do her IP seminars. Starting off that F-1 Visa application thing today and will have to look at housing next. Really hope I get on-campus. Would think it would prohibitively expensive to try and rent around the area.

I am from Japan. My main interest is human rights law, but at the same time, I intend to widen my perspectives through studying private laws.

Hope to meet you soon.

Hey dear admitted LLMs,

First of all I would like to congratulate you on your admission. Then, I have a suggestion. Last year, I set up a mailing list with several of my LLM fellows that I met on this very forum before leaving for the US. This mailing list is still in use today, and we have about 80% of the LLMs on the list. The list was very useful in the process leading up to the LLM in order to exchange information about the administrative procedures and requirements in an efficient way. During the LLM then, it was great because it gave us a means to communicate instantly with the whole class about upcoming events, and many other things.

I set up this mailing list on Yahoo Groups and am using columbia-llm2006 as list name. Why don't you all set up columbia-llm2007 and make this a tradition from now on?

Again, congratulations on your admission, and best of luck with everything that you have to handle up to when you come to the US.

Thanks for setting this up.
Just curious about the start of the semester. I will be an LLM student (US JD). I noticed that registration is in mid-Aug but that the intensive professional responsibility course starts two weeks later. What to do during the 2 weeks in between?

tgheen,

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. In fact, registration is mid-August, and any non-common-law trained LLM must take the Introduction to US Law course (except if they changed the requirements this year). As a US-trained student you may take it if you want, but I would say it's a waste of (expensive) credits. The only advantage is that you would actually get to know your fellow LLMs.

If you don't take the course, you will indeed start just after Labor Day, i.e. first weekend in September. But I think that there is a special registration for those LLMs thatare not required to take the Intro course.

Hope this answers to your question.

it took about 1 month for me to receive the formal letter and package. You may ask Ms. LaFarge to send the formal letter to you by fax. She did this in my case.
