Columbia No. 1 in Moot Court
Columbia's Jessup International Law Moot Court Team has just won both the national and international competition in the final rounds of arguments held last weekend in Washington, D.C. Wed Apr 05, 2006 04:28 PM 556 teams competed worldwide from 89 countries. Of course, a Moot Court Team consists of few students only. However, in my view Columbia's success shows that it has in its rows some of the world's best future legal practitioners. Being enrolled there I can confirm that CLS is incredibly dynamic and swinging. |

I have nothing against CLS at all, but considering that admissions have now all been sent, one may wonder whether some posts do not emanate from Graduate Committees themselves to increase their rate of acceptance from admitted students...that was just a thought...

Hey, I am a completly independent student and do not have to do anything with Graduate Committees!!! I just find it important to bring facts. I think that in some posts reference has been made more to rumor rather than facts. There has been the express desire by some to learn more about the law schools, and if Columbia wins the Moot Court against 555 other teams worldwide, it is probably a piece of information that many in this forum might be interested in. On the other hand, I find it perfectly permissible if others here point out the advantages and achievements of schools other than CLS. I believe that anybody here is intelligent enough to make up his or her own mind how to evaluate an incoming piece of information.

I have a basic but very important question. Are Columbia LLM students eligible to participate in the moot court? Isn't it only for JD students? Hey abc, your question is perfectly justified. It was J.D. students who won the contest. For the dynamics of the classes it is highly critical to have not only excellent LL.M. students but also excellent J.D. students in the classroom. I guess in any law school the J.D. students form the majority of students.

You know. With no offense, I noticed many "advertising" posts from Columbia students and, in my opinion, they are just lame. CLS is a very good school, period. You don't need to "sell" your school (that's why we don't see similar posts from Harvard, Stanford or Yale...)

Sorry but I think it's great that someone on this board is so kind to share his/her information about any law schools with us. yeah we all know that CLS is good, but there are many of us also wish to know how good it is to make sure that we will not feel regretted years later for any decision we are to make. ...we are not supposed to choose law schools soly on their fame, right?...anyway, I myself don't think the above posts are advertisements... I would like to know more about those top law schools. Welcome more friends to share information with us....thanks!

Echo66: here is another information for you I heard from a friend, Harvard didn't even compete in the Intenational Round of that competition; they failed in the National Round.

Okay. Now I know that this post is really not useful. Or do you think Harvard is a second tier school because they did not qualify to the international round? Or maybe b/c a group of 4 Columbia students won one moot court competition (which is only for JDs) makes Columbia a better option than Harvard. Please...

Wow, maybe this thread should calm down just a bit?Wed Apr 26, 2006 11:42 PM I am a JD at Columbia. I've had some good experiences here, and some bad ones. The administration is appalling (I hope someone from the administration is reading this). The education is fantastic. And yes, you are all adults (presumably) who are capable of making up your own minds. No, LLMs did not participate in the Moot Court. However, the professors and courses which allowed those students to do so well are the same professors and courses that will form your experience here. Unless, of course, you go to Harvard because you assume that the fact that none of their students feel the urge to promote them means they must be inherently superior. If so, it's a shame. hey guysFri Sep 21, 2007 07:00 AM i know this is about a year 2 late, but i just thought i'd comment I participated in the moot ct that columbia won and i thought they were pretty good they were the only participants (from US) who were civil to us foreigners.and not only that their 'mooting' was excellent as well. so, those of u beating up the person who posted this about 'advertising' , here is an advise - don't be hatin'! Like a smart guy once said "what's in a name?" [Harvard/Yale/Columbia???] |
