TOEFL score
Hi guys ! Thu Mar 10, 2005 05:12 PM I've just discovered this website and find it very interesting ! I'm a french attorney and I plan to apply for fall 2006. I've seen that english requirements are around 250 (CBT) and I'd like to know the TOEFL's score of those who've been admitted and if they've received conditionnal offers ? Thanks ! |

Re: TOEFL score
I had a score of 297 / 300 on the computer-based test.Thu Mar 10, 2005 11:33 PM I was admitted to UPenn, Georgetown and Chicago so far. Still waiting for 6 others (CLS, HLS, NYU...). Re conditional offers: I think they don't do that in the US. As far as I know, it's something only English universities do |

toefl CBT 263/ 26 27 26 TWE 5Fri Mar 11, 2005 12:31 AM Unconditionally admitted to HLS, CLS. Still waiting for others. Toefl is only way that a LS used to evaluate a foreign applicants English skill. But most schools paid much attention to it, probably it's the basis for LLM students' English communication skill with people during study session. Some schools set their minimum requirement of this-- as far as I know-- these schools are CLS (260 with each section more than 25 and 5.0 in TWE), HLS (600(paper based)=250(cbt)), NYU (600/250 with section score requirement equal to CLS), Cornell (550). These schools did not dissuade applicants with toefl scores lower than the requirments but announced an negative impact. Others have not set up the bottom limits but declared the importance of score of this test to thier decision. Language pre-schools are available to those who admitted with the intnetion to improve thier English skills but never heard of "conditional" admission that is a common practice in certain UK schools. |

Re: TOEFL score
I scored 290/300 on the computer-based TOEFL.Fri Mar 11, 2005 01:54 AM Most schools do set TOEFL requirements. For instance UPenn requires at least 270 points, however, people who scored fewer points, but have otherwise impressive credentials, might be conditionally admitted, provided that they will take a course of English as a foreign language at UPenn. |

When you said 270, I hope you mean it. But you can not be more wrong, dude.Fri Mar 11, 2005 02:04 AM www.law.upenn.edu/prospective/grad/faq.html |

Re: TOEFL score
Well even in countries like Belgium they need the toefl up to 250/300. In some places like NZ they offer you a conditionnal place.

Re: TOEFL score
I had "only" 263 but was pretty proud of it - and got no rejection yet. However, do not overestimate the test. Most Universities demand 250, some only 230 and I only rembeber Columbia asking for 260. But I cannot immagine that they would refuse you only because of the toefl. Fri Mar 11, 2005 07:16 AM 297? So far as I heard natives make about 280 if they prepare two whole days! You must have been preparing by heart....? |

Re: TOEFL score
thanks for your replies !!Fri Mar 11, 2005 05:33 PM it seems that I have to work... i think my score is around 230. I saw some schools in UK (UCL, LSE,...) were offering english summer programs about 20 weeks prior to the beginning of the courses. I guess it would be a great way for improve my english skills but the only problem is the tuition fee (6000 £)...! |

Re: TOEFL score
Hi all,Fri Mar 11, 2005 06:18 PM I will be applying for 2006 entry as well and was a bit curious about the TOEFL. I am currently in my final year of Law School in the UK and had appeared for the IELTS in May 2002. I understand that one may be excused from the TOEFL if they have completed their LLB from an English University. Could any applicant for the current academic year please confirm. In case I have to take the TOEFL any idea how long I would have to prepare for it? (My IELTS score is 8.0 out of a maximum of 9.0) Cheers! |

Re: TOEFL score
shil and nico:Fri Mar 11, 2005 07:09 PM first, take an old test. If you sign in for the test you get two tests for free and there must be a friend who has a test yet to give you if you don't want sign in yet. There are also plenty of books with tests, etc. Maybe you can also download a test at at the toefl-website. After a test you will know where you stay. I your English in not really bad, you can learn by yourself, 6000 £ are far too much. In my opinion you can go to an ordinary english school and take the test afterwards. The Test isn't as sophiticated as Cambridge tests. You can also take a test in an English Center and they will tell you, how much work you need. Just start immediately, buy tomorrow a toefl learning book! Good luck! |

Sun Mar 13, 2005 08:23 PM 297? So far as I heard natives make about 280 if they prepare two whole days! You must have been preparing by heart....? :-) Luke, no. I was just back from a 5-month stay in Scotland when I took the test, so that helped a lot. A good piece of advice for any foreigners (such as myself) : read English books, it helps a lot with the vocabulary, because I think that's the most important thing with the TOEFL-test. |

Re: TOEFL score
as far as im aware, english unis prefer ielts over toefl. i myself had 8.5 ielts and got admitted to lse very fast. so i would think that ielts score is rather important. i think lse had 7.5 requirement in llm

Re: TOEFL score
hehe ... i scored 300/300, which was amazing. i was really lucky, i think.Wed Apr 06, 2005 07:32 PM as for the toefl's relevance for your ll.m. apps: i don't think anybody cares how high you scored if only you got the magical 250 points. and, no, i wasn't rejected by any school. (i might also let you know my girlfriend's american. however, we started dating only after the toefl. she wanted to see my score first ;-) |

Re: Re: TOEFL score
Hi everybody, as i understood from these posts, i have a chance to get into HLS or Yale with 580 scores in PBToefl with condition of having strong background?Tue Aug 09, 2005 12:07 AM But the couple of days before i tried to recognize about minimal TOEFL scores and the majority of answers were negative,,,,,(look TOEFL for ivy-leaque ) So i will try to do more than 580 but i think this is my limit, i will know that in fall, after TOEFL exams.....By the way who is planning to go to HLS in 2006? |
