It seems like I'll be joining you, guys, in September for the International Public Interest LLM. I am a Russian-American, currently doing NGO work in New York. Would love to learn more about you, guys..
flatmates sounds like a great idea, so does a separate forum for Leiden. Here's my email: aichka@gmail.com. Would love to hear from you all

Hi guys,
in the end I'm going to Leiden as well, on the European Law LL.M.. I've got two friends from Paris (I'm currently studying there) who are coming as well so we're thinking of being flatmates. So I'll be living with them, but we'll probably get to know each other, since they are taking the EU Business Law and the PIL Masters.
I got some information from Leiden, and they told me that all accomodation in Leiden was dealt with by SLS (www.sls.wonen.nl), which is cited in their letter of offer. Click on "Short stay" and you will have a choice between different things. Not very clear as to the prices, I thought.

i will be moving to leiden by september 1st (the latest). i will be studying for a llm in public international law. my girlfriend will be moving with me. i from the US, my gf is spanish. im currently living in spain.

so, we are interested in a 2 bedroom. ideal would be if i could also find a couple. then we could be 4 in a 2 bedroom. a 2 bedroom goes for around 650-900. but, with 3 or 4 that is really good.

I contacted the International Office at Leiden and they told me that most of their students prefer to live in The Hague, as the course itself is divided between The Hague and Leiden. I am trying to get in touch with some of the current students for advice. I will be moving to Holland by myself and would prefer to live in an apartment shared with another student. Let me know if anyone is interested: aichka@gmail.com.

as you've probably read, i'll attend the european business law ll.m. i did't ask the university of leiden to provide accommodation, because some guys studying there told me the rooms the university provides you are a bit far from downtown and, anyway, the prices rise if you need like an agency for finding an house.
i'll look by my own for a room, probably i'll get the one my friends rented this year, but it has only two beds in two different rooms.
keep in touch!

yeah, we all need to keep in touch. we all have a good opportunity to use this forum as well as emails to find flat mates and help each other with the apt search. like i said my gf and i are looking for flatmates, either one other person or a couple.

I think you should email agencies in Leiden in order to ask them to tell you when they have appartments available for september.
Below is the link on the university's website for "finding housing yourself". there are a number of nice things to rent, but not for september yet:
leiden.edu/prospective/index.php3?m=3&c=10#prices

My friends and I are going to email these agencies.

Guys,
maybe we could exchange our email addresses and continue this directly with each other?
Also, there are must be a number of newspapers/magazines etc. where people list their ads, that we could use without going through the agencies. Does anyone know?

anya

U Leiden Tax
Wed May 03, 2006 05:21 PM
Hello,

I was recently admitted to the U Leiden tax program for the upcoming year. I am a recent graduate from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois USA. I am curious to know what the job prospects are after graduating from Leiden's LLM in tax. Do american law firms look highly upon this degree (especially in their international branches). Also, if I move there, will i have difficulty finding a place to live if I have a dog?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Manuj

Manju,

I see that you just graduated from DePaul. I'm a grad of Chicago-Kent from a few years ago who will be attending the Leiden PIL LLM in Sept 06. Nice to know another Chicago grad will be there. Maybe we can trade tips on finding a place, etc.? I don't have a dog so I don't know about that.

I've heard people say that Amer employers do like to see LLMs but I'm not so sure. You shoudl do an LLM for yourself not to try to buy a job. The most important thing in the job search is to have evidence that you know what you are talking about so that an employer will be assured that you can do the work competently.
