I just received an e-mail from the academy that due to the large number of applications, we will be notifed of our status by the end of March. Did anyone else receive this or is it just a ploy to put me on a waiting list of some sort? The wait is killing me, who are all these other applicants? I am getting very very anxious.

Hi, Petra, no we all received it - at least Griselle and I. At first I thought it was their personal reply to me, as I sent them an email asking if there are any delays and if we get an answer by email (as statedin the acknowledgement email) or by regular mail. But it was a generic email they sent out. THe weird thing is that most universities in Europe are closed for the second half of March for Easter, so I don't understand who exactly will be sendingout everything if the university is closed. Maybe they send out answers by regular mail byt eh end of this week and simply approximate that it will take two weeks to reach us. The wait is pure torture, but as kenco said, organization is not their strongest point.
Let us know if you receive anything else.

Thanks Tanya, the wait is killing me too. Lets cross our fingers and wait for good news, I was beginning to get very worried. I hope with the very many applicants, we still stand a chance. All the best and lets keep in touch.

Now I have just received admission to the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in the US. This really complicates things for me because Fletcher is at par with HEI, I believe. It has outstanding reputation. I am still waiting on HEI and UCIHL but this is really really hard for me! What would anyone do?

Kind regards and best luck to all of you with your aplications!!!

Hi Petra,
sorry, I only appled to the Academy. I am not certain about reputations from other schools. The academy is relatively new and that is a significant factor. But ultimately it also depends on the financial assistance. Have you been offered any scholarships? In any event, congratulations!

Hi Tanya,
Yes I was given a scholarship of $18,000 but that only covers half the tution costs and frankly I do not know how or where to raise the rest. Fletcher Schhool of Law and Diplomacy has a very good reputation but ultimately as you say , it boils down to affordablity.
I have seen someone else say they have ben admitted to the academy, so .... what does this mean, why send us mail to wait and admission offers are actually out for some people?

I just received an offer from the academy, but without any details.

I'm from Norway, and I applied in November. I am a bit torn between my options as it is very difficult to find much reliable information about the Academy. The program seems great though.

Here's the e-mail i received, in case anyone is curios:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am pleased to inform you that the Academy’s Admission Committee has admitted you to the 2008/2009 MAS in International Humanitarian Law.

In the meantime, you must imperatively proceed before April 30, 2008 to your registration at the University of Geneva (mandatory for students of the Academy). This procedure is totally independent from your application to the Academy. To carry out this procedure please visit: www.unige.ch/dase/immatriculation.html

You will shortly receive the letter of acceptance and the form for the payment of the first instalment of the tuition fees.

Best regards,

Isabelle Gagnebin

hello everyone!
I just got an email from the Academy, stating that I have been admitted, but saying that tehy have to yet look at the scholarship application and will communicate their decision as to teh scholarship by teh end of April. On one side it's great news, on the other side I can't afford to go without a scholarship.
Petra and Grisselle, I hope you got positive answers too! Please let me know!

Congratulations Tanya!

I just read on the web-pages of the ADH that one has to accept the offer and pay a first installment of CHF 2000 within April 30.

That's quite cruel, given they do not let us know about the scholarships untill the end of April.

Or might I have misunderstood things?

Hi there!
Congratulations to you as well.
to be honest I am not up to speed on the whole process. I am a Canadian citizen, but live in Austria. Now, however, I am in Canada for two weeks to see my parents. So, my internet access here is limited and my documents are in Austria. So, I will wait till I get back on April 1 and then check my paper mail and try to figure everything out. I think the best bet right now if to call the Academy. They are not very keen on answering emails, but I called them once and got my inquiry answered. I know it's a bit ridiculous to pay the non-refundable deposit before we are accepted at University of Geneva and before student visas are obtained. I think there should be some room for paying a bit later. I mean, after all, it was they who were late with admission answers, so it's only fair that they give us two weeks extra time too. But I will check everything in detail once I am back in Austria. If you hear anything or if you wish to ask anything, please do not hesitate to email me at tanya_tokar82@hotmail.com
COngrats again. I take it that you are accepting? I still haven't heard anything about teh reputation of the program, although individual professors are outstanding.

Hi Petra1
Congratulations!
Right now I am in a daze, I have to make a decision quickly, but I am not sure of what is the right step for me. For me it's not so much other offers as my personal situation. I have no French, so I will have to invest in French courses over the summer and throughout the academic year to be able to qualify for future internships. Plus I will have to live away from my husband and we got married only recently. I want to be able to have a job after the program and I am scared that I will squander the last savings I have, live away from Alex for almost two years (if you factor in the potential internship) and then with the minimal French I will obtain in this short time I might not even get an internship or a job. And I found out nothing about the reputation of the Academy, I don't know any of the graduates or where the job chances are. So, it's all very uncertain right now. On the other hand, I am really looking forward to studying with amazing students and amazing professors. But I just don't have a feel for this program - it's all partial information and all of it on paper, nothing from experience of those who went through it. I will deal with it once I get back to Austria in 10 days. Ultimately it all hinges on the scholarship. Without it it's simply not affordable.
Let me now what you decide and congratulatios again.
Tanya

hi everyone I am new to this board. I got accepted by the Academy but received my letter of offer quite late. Anyway I have couriered all my registration documents including payment to the University of Geneva from where I am, Malaysia, and was informed by the courier company that my parcel will only arrive at the University on the 2nd of May. Does anyone know if this will disqualify me for registration?

hi, I don't think you will have a problem. The day youmailed it should be the one that counts, and if you explained whyyou are sending everything late, it should be OK. Univeristy of Geneva were actually pretty great. They acknowledged the receipt of documents immediately and sent me a letter of acceptance within the same week. I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about. Plus, if you first registered online, then they already know about you and are expecting your documents.

also, to all those who are waiting for scholarship answers, I emailed the Academy yesterday, as I could no longer take the wait. They said that they will make their decisions by the end of the week and will communicate them by the middle of next week by email, but if anyone needs a formal written confirmation (for visas, etc) , then we shoul email them and request it. So, more delays...

Hey there Woralick, good to hear from someone from the Far East! my email is steppenwolfe79@yahoo.com so please feel free to correspond with me at any point.... am sure we will share many similar worries and anticipations:) You take care..

Also, for anyone who is reading, I know this may be abit too much to ask, but my French is pretty paltry (just had my first day beginner's class) and could not really understand this email I received from University of Geneva today.... if anyone is able to understand it, will it be okay if you let me know what it means? Just the essence of the message, not the entire email verbatim.... thanks for any response!!!

Dear steppenwolfe
This is an acknowledge of receipt of your application file (in french we call accusé de reception) stating that the admimistative department of university of geneva got your application file already and will proceed your enrollment soon. If your enrollment is complete, university will sent you all of documents concerning to study guide in this academic year. This is a standard form that we have got after sending our application file to geneva university. I think that you will receive enrollment certificate and student guide by post within next week

Whats the general status for most applicants for the International Humanitarian Law course?

I sent all my registration docs and payment, received an email on the first week of May to say they received it but now it's silent.... what should I be expecting?
