You need a degree first. If you want to study international tax law, get a degree in law, economics or accounting. Do as many tax courses as possible.

hey vienna girl,Tue Apr 07, 2009 05:33 PM did you did it full time? it seems a good uni but not so highly ranked to deserve 1 year of your time. ... Plus I know one of the professor that is not a good sign.... I'm still if to do or not an LL.M not sure is really worth it. |

Yes, full time. 2.5 months to go. This is a fantastic course. Which prof do you know? So far, I have very little to complain about. Tue Apr 07, 2009 06:06 PM But only do this if you know some tax to begin with, and you like it. A few of my classmates are not so passionate about it. But if you like tax, it is great. You will have very few weekends, because you have classes on Friday and Saturday. But the rest of the week is yours, and it is not difficult to get everything done. A few of my classmates work in addition to going to school. For this reason alone I am happy I did not go to Leiden (school every day). Whether it is worth a year of your life? Depends on what you want your life to be and how old you are. I would not trade this year. |

hi vienna girl,Wed Apr 08, 2009 09:36 AM thanks for your frank answer. The professor is P. Pistone is an italian professor of tax in italy - where I'm from- however don't know how much he is involved in the program. well, I guess is quite difficult to be really passionate about tax... I practice it but to be honest I don't love it that much. About Leiden I don't think is worth it, there are better place if you deceide to spend a good bunch of money. Thanks again and good luck for your career. |

Hi Viennagirl, I have been accepted for the LLM in Int tax law in Vienna....could I ask you some information about the course? I see you are still doing it...It is quite expensive for this reason I am still waiting for responses from other universities where I'd pay less money (Netherlands)...And what about career perspective? I am 27 and I am a senior international tax and TP consultant in a Big 4 and I'd like to take a LLM to enlarge my knowledge and I think it's worth...Furthermore, one of my desires after that is to go to work in the UK (but it is just a thought so far...)...are there any possibilities after this LLM?? tks a lot!

This LLM has contacts with many firms. But you make your own career, there is posssibility to do anything you want, so I do not understand what you ask. This year there was nothing on UK law...is this what you ask?

What about the italian professor a guy told you in a post left last year? Thank you again I really appreciate your advice! |

Yes, it is worth the money. Tue May 05, 2009 02:23 PM If you now work in the area, you should know these names- it should be clear that all of the professors are the experts in there areas. You should learn lots. The Italian professor Pistone? Amazing guy and fantastic lecturer. |

As for the English test, yes it is best if you can read and write English. But it doesn't have to be perfect. There are not many perfect English speakers in the class this year.

Hi ViennaGirl! Would you recommend this program for a latin-american tax attorney? Iīm afraid it could be too focused in the european tax system and, therefore, not offer me any benefit at all. In the other hand, Iīm really interested and actually working on double imposition treaties and transfer pricing, so do you think this program could help me to improve my skills in that area? Wed May 06, 2009 12:23 AM One other thing: Is the admission process ridiculously competitive? I mean, how good are my chances with a regular GPA but a good ex-work in this field? (I work with the government as a tax policy advisor, healping to create new tax laws) [Edited by l_valda_yanguas on 06 May 2009] |

You are correct. The focus is very much Euro law. But there are usually latin american lawyers and accountants in the program. Also at Leiden. Sorry but I do not know how competitive it is. As regards treaties, yes it is very very good here for that. Not so much emphasis on transfer pricing but it may change for next year.

No, not at this school. Check the website. You do not need a degree in law. You need a degree. Accounting , economics, law, these are all good.

FYI - you can view Maastricht University - International and European Tax Law Programme, it seems to be quite good and should have more of an international flavorSun Jun 07, 2009 07:58 PM www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/web/Faculties/FL/Targe… |
