I had taken the IELTS in 2002 and had scored an overall grade of 8.0 out of a possible 9. My individual scores were 8.5, 8, 8 and 7 the last being for speaking (had a case of nerves at the interview!). I had not prepared for the IELTS at all, just had a quick glance at the pattern of the test under the four sections. However, I was pretty confident having studied in the best of schools and colleges in a metropolitan city. You might have a slight problem in the listening section, especially if you are not too familiar with the particular accent. As far as I can recall it was a British accent, but in some cases you might get Australian accents (depends on your centre). All this was like three years ago, so things may have changed a bit now. Time management (written) and nerves (speaking & listening) might be the only factors. Sorry I don't have any experience with the TOEFL. Good luck!!!
