NYU has recently started LLM program at NUS (Singapore).

Anyone has information on the above program?

1) Would the LLM from above program allow one to take NY bar?
2) Cost associated with the program?

NYU website doesnt give much details. As far as bar exam, they give a standard answer "check with respective states".

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

1) NYU is still working this out with the New York state authorities. We expect the information to be available in a couple of months.
2) The cost is exactly the same as the tuition fee at NYU in New York, that is, upwards of USD35,000. However, there will be a substantial number of scholarships available, courtesy of several Singaporean sources. Details will be announced in early September, so keep a lookout for the announcement on www.nyunus.com (or sign up for an automatic info provider).
3) The program provides for all students to earn double degrees (an LLM from NYU as well as an LLM from NUS), with extra credits to be taken in obtaining both. Again, details will be out along with the application form in September.

What will be your policy on lawyers who already earned LL.M. from a top US law school and would like to pursue another one with focus on Asian law?
Are you planning to offer S.J.D. program as well?

A student with an LLM from a top US school would obviously have a strong chance of meeting the requirements for entry into the program, and possibly for a scholarship. The joint venture between NYU and NUS does not presently include a doctoral program, but NUS has its own existing PhD program. (See www.law.nus.edu.sg/prospective/postgrad/research/p… )

I was hoping that Dean Richard Revesz will be teaching in the program, since Environmental Law and Administrative Law are my research interests, but it doesn't seem that he will be teaching in the NYU@NUS program, and it doesn't seem that courses on Environmental Law will be offered. Do you think there is a chance for him to come to NUS to teach?

Unfortunately the Dean cannot fit a full teaching load into his schedule in Summer 2007, but will be visiting around the start of the programme and will participate in a substantive event on environmental law. In addition, NUS offers courses that you may take through the programme on International Environmental Law & Policy, Comparative Environmental Law, Environmental Law in Singapore & SE Asia, as well as Comparative Administrative Law.

Att: Prof Simon Chesterman
As I read through the blog and the website, it is clear that it has not been worked out until now about the fate of future LLM-LLM(NYU@NUS) graduates eligibilty for the NY Bar. It may be because the NY Board takes more than usual time to take decisions. Prof Chesterman may like to give indicative time frame in which the NY Board is likely to take the decision. Choice to attend or not to attend may hinge upon this single factor alone as deriving the advantages of two school should not ultimately oust one from the bar especially when NYU degree otherwise can make one eligible as a foreign lawyer.
2) What are the possibilities to specialize in the area of international finance law in NYU@ NUS let's say about 16 credits in the field. Thanks
Shall be grateful for your remarks/observations.

Is the NYU@NUS program being offered at any time after the May 1st start date i.e, a winter semester start? I have recently become very interested in this program but I fear I will not be able to have my documentation in by 1 December...Thank you.

Hi LLMARK,

I don't think that there's going to be another start date, given the academic schedule. The link to the tentative academic calendar is here: nyugloballaw.org/graduateadmissions/masteroflaws/d…

Thanks for your reply...I think I may try to push for the deadline date and hope it comes together.

I submitted my application the FIRST week of Sept with all necessary supporting documents included. I did not receive a confirmation email that my application was complete until October 30 (2 months later!!!) and now have been waiting a month and a half for a response.

So much for rolling admissions.....

So far, not yet. The NYU@NUS will not qualify for the NY Bar. The school says they are still working on it.
