I got accepted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just received an email with the offer of admission to NYU@NUS and a grant for $35,000!!!!!!! I'm so happy I can't even start describing the feeling. Good luck to everyone else and I'll see you in Singapore!!! Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!

Many congratulations! Can you brief me on the fees at NUS and also the deadlines involved for next yr. Is it correct that you guys arent eligible for the NY bar?

Dear guys,

I also received similar e-mail as BCC but i'm rather perplexed by the lightning speed of the process of my application.
First, i submitted my application way after the Dec 1 deadline - 15 Dec to be precise. i remember calling the NYU Board of Graduates on Dec 16 and was verbally informed that my application is out of time, and hence will not be considered. i thought that was the end of the matter and i witheld the payment of the registration fee. I am suprised my application is even processed without me having to pay for the registration fee.
Second, if i remember correctly, i did not applied for scholarships in my application form because i was resigned to not getting any and i didn't want to write another personal statement. but, guess what, like BCC, i am offered US$35,000 grant.
Can anyone enlighten me on:
1) the lightning speed of the process of my application;
2) the genuineness of the offer; and
3) does the term 'grant' denotes scholarship or it's just another form of loan? In my country, grant is sometimes understood as government loan.

on a separate note, i hold a first in my law degree.

I got the same $35k package as well w/o applying for scholarship. I'm pretty sure from the email that the $35k is not a loan, I guess they really do have a lot of money!

I applied for NYU (in NY) as 1st choice and NYU@NUS as 2nd choice, admitted to both... but there's no scholarship under NY option... I'm quite torn as to where I should go now...

I have to make the same decision. any suggestions?

Congratulations! You say that you also got admitted to NYU in NY? I have applied for there and was just interested to know when you received their decision and at what date you applied? Once again, congrats to all those that got in.

Hi! I'm from Panama (Latin America) and I sent my application on October 20th, completed my file by November 8th and received notification from NYU that my file was complete by November 15th.
I did apply for the Singapura Scholarship but in the papers that I got there is no mention of it. They just say that they are able to offer me a grant of $35K to cover most of the tuition costs for NYU@NUS.
I was wondering, how many of those admitted will actually pursue the LLM in Singapore?
Happy Holidays to all of you!

Hi All, Does anybody know if NYU will surely send out confirmation indicating that the applicaiton is complete? I sent out my application on the very last day. So far haven't heard anything from them. No confirmation.
Second, I thought the decision for NYU will come out much later. But now it does not seem so. Does anybody know the correct time frame?
Thank you!

Hi karrie808, i never received any notification from NYU too. the e-mail indicating my successful application is the only notification i received.

Hi BCC, do you know the actual tuition fees for NYU@NUS programme? the e-mail seems to say that we may have to fork out extra fees to cover the shortfall in the grant. what about our living expenses?

Karrie808: I think the NYU decision comes sooner if you applied for both NYU & NYU@NUS, as they have to make the NYU@NUS decisions first. If you only applied to NYU I think the decision will probably only be out in April as they say on the website.

Karrie: I got an e-mail from Graduate Admissions confirming that my application was complete - it's an automatically generated e-mail. I applied in the last days (applied on-line on the last Monday, materials reached on the very last day) and received an e-mail confirming that the application was complete on 30th November. When reviewing the application, the Commitee on Graduate Admissions realised that I had electronically attached the resume twice, once instead of the personal statement. Therefore, I had an e-mail on 4th December requesting that I immediately fax them the resume which I did - the following day, I received a second application complete e-mail on 6th December.

So, there is an e-mail that you should receive at some stage confirming that your application is complete.

Hey Michelle/ BCC. I am planning to apply to NYU in 08 as a fresher. Are you guys aware of the tuition fees at NYU and NYU@NUS. Did either of you get a waiver at NYU? Are you guys freshers from law school? If not, how do you rate a fresher's chance to walk in at NYU.

Hi Karrie/UT: I have to say that you've got me really worried now. I did not receive any receipt confirmations from NYU until now. I submitted my application and all the supporting documents before Dec.1, 2006. Until now I didn't hear anything from NYU. Is this normal?

I would really appreciate your comments.

Don't worry. It might be an idea to e-mail graduate admissions just enquiring about receipt of materials but in all honesty, they will personally e-mail you if there is anything wrong with the application. Therefore, do not place too much emphasis on the e-mail confirming that your application is complete - it is merely computer generated. As I said before, if the Comittee of Graduate Admissions finds anything missing with your application upon review, they will e-mail you requesting that information irrespective of confirmation that the application was complete. So, they are very helpful in this respect.

VA 1993: Tuition for NY & NYU@NUS is the same.

Courtesy of "Goodluck":
cost of tuition is in the afternoon transcript of the online information session..."the tuition and fees for the 2007-2008 academic year will be set in late May 2007. The current year cost of attendance for a full time LL.M. student is $61,485. Approximately $40,150 of the cost of attendance is for tuition and mandatory fees."

Michelle: Thanks for the update. I am sure cost of living is significantly cheaper at NYU@NUS. Are you a fresher? Also, is it true that NYU@NUS doesnt entitle you to sit for the NY Bar? May the "Goodluck" continue with whichever programme you choose.

UT: thanks a lot for your message. I was about to e-mail the Graduate Admission Office and inquire about my application. I had already started doubting because I didn't even receive any e-mails confirming that my online application was submitted like it was the case with other schools (e.g. Georgetown). I hope it's just a matter of time and they'll get back to me in due course.

Thanks again,

"Thank you for submitting your 75.00 application fee. The Committee will begin reviewing your application as soon as all required documents are received."
The above message is the only message I got, which was sent after I paid online. I did not get any confirmation indicating receipt of my supporting materials. I tried to email them, but so far I only get an auto-reply with FAQs.
I think the confirmation of receipt of supporting documents is not computer-generated. Someone has to see the documents and to make sure what's still missing. Now I am really worried...

has anyone here gotten a notification about the singapura scholarship? or have they received notifications about grants only?

the reason i ask is that the cost of tuition and living expenses will far out-strip the $35,000 offered - if you are like me and money is an issue, you probably applied for the singapura scholarship in hopes of getting the whole thing (including tuition and reasonable living expenses paid for). does any know the status of the singapura scholarship - if they are still giving those out?

thanks and congrats to all those who got in.

as well, if anyone finds out of a change in the NY bar (re students not being able to take the bar exam), please post.

I am pleased to offer some quick responses to your three questions.

First, the speed of turnaround is a function of the need to start this programme some months before the regular NYU courses - we begin in May rather than August, and so have prioritized Singapore applications for processing. Your application would normally have been ruled out of time, but we are being a little flexible in this first year of the programme and so you have just squeezed in.

Second, this is an entirely genuine offer. As we have indicated in press released and on our website, we are able to offer up to fifty full tuition scholarships in each of the first four years of the programme. The grant we have offered you is not one of the named scholarships, but nonetheless is a recognition that your application is strong enough to merit this award.

Finally, I apologize if these has been any confusion about the term "grant". This is not a loan but a form of financial assistance that we are able to offer to some students - it is a scholarship in all but name.

Best wishes of the season,

Simon Chesterman

Congratulations first! I am sure it is genuine offer from NYU since most others receive the same package.

However, I am a bit disappointed by the "efficiency" of the admission process. To begin with, the webpage of NYU said rolling decisions would be made and first offer of scholarships were to be issued by the end of September. I guess most of the applicants sent out application materials quite early. But it seemed that all decisions were notified at the same time. And then, comparing to the same offer made out above, it seemed that my efforts in preparing the application materials, especially essays for scholarship application, were quite useless or unjustified.

Anyway, maybe it was only an extraordinary case and I understand that the admission officers are working really hard to cope with the early entrance in May. I wish it will be a success.
