I am interested in applying to the following programs for the coming academic year (2007-2008)Mon Sep 18, 2006 05:41 PM 1) Master Degree in Business Law offered by the University of Geneva And 2) the LLM Magister Legum offered by the University of Paris The University of Paris and The University of Geneva are considered as 2 of the most renowned academic institutions in Europe. Moreover, both universities offer the possibility to take an internship as an integral part of their Master programs. Finally, Paris as well as Geneva are 2 of the most exciting, vibrant and cosmopolitan cities that exist in the globe. I really need some advice because it is really hard to choose a postgraduate program without any advice from your part Could you please let me know which one is better? University of Paris is a very good choice. Thu Oct 05, 2006 08:13 AM Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne and Paris II Panthéon Assas are the best in France with excellent professors...and it is Paris... |

There is a huge difference between both programs Sat May 19, 2007 03:44 PM 1) Université of Paris The LL.M Magister Legum at Université Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne does not accept french students in the program. The program aims to provide a basic knowledge of french and european union law to foreign trained lawyers. So, the level of the master depends on the foreign students that attend the program. In my personal point of view, it is a disadvantage not to be in contact with domestic trained students.Nevertheless, the Magister Legum includes a 3 months internship as an integral part of the program either in a law firm or in the legal department of a company located in France. I do not know if the internship is remunerated or not but I think that the internship is a plus for your professional career. So, I think that is a good investment even if it is not an official master of the University of Paris. In France, there are 2 kinds of official postgraduate master degrees (master 1 et master 2 ). ") The Universite of Geneva (Université de Geneve) The Master of Advanced Studies in Business Law is opened to both swiss and foreign students. this program is very demanding and you can really specialize in business law. The program is focused on Swiss and European Union Law ( Corporations, Swiss and European Competition Law, Swiss and European Tax Law; Intellectual Property, Banking Law). The program also includes a course on International Commercial Arbitration as well as a Moot Court. there is also a course on International Commercial Contracts and International Taxation as well as a course In US Business Law with professor Steven Schwarz (Prof. from Duke University).You can also attend courses and seminars on Merger & Acquistions, Accounting, Negotiation etc. During the second part of the program, the students must take a compulsory and remunerated internship (at least 9 months) in the legal department of a corporation, financial instituttion etc either in Switzerland or in another country. So, As you can see, the participants of the MBL program have the opportunity to put in practice all the knowledge that they have acquired during their studies in Geneva. Furthermore, you must take into account that the internships are well paid (between 2500 and 5000 swiss francs). The salaries depend on your professional experience, language skills, education as well as in the kind of company that hires you. Actually, some of the students that have attended the program have signed non term contracts instead of an internship contract with their companies. Moreover, the courses are conducted in English and in French. Hi thereFri Jul 13, 2007 08:19 PM I am a British qualified lawyer who is very interested in doing the Masters in Business law course at the University of Geneva. I would be grateful if any of you could advise me 1) Can this course totally be studied in English medium? Ie - If your french is not very good can you opt to do all the modules in English? 2) or is the course a combination of certain French modules and certain English modules? - its a compulsary requirement that certain modules are taught in English and certain in French My French is not very good. But i am really keen on doing this course. . Thanking you befroe hand |

The university of cergy-pontoise offers an LLM in french and european law taught in english. Some seminars are taught by international law firms in Paris (I know because my law firm is a partner in this LLM programme). The law school has an excellent reputation and it is the only university to offer also qualifications in foreign law. I was graduated from the university of Cergy and entered a Master 2 in Paris II. I ended major and got the best results.
