I've also applied for UCLA. And by the time I submitted my online application (December), I received an e-mail confirming it and informing that I could visit the website to check the status of my supporting documents (fortunately the status is complete). So I guess they would not send another personal e-mail when the documents arrive there. They said I would only "be notified of the Graduate Studies Committee's decision by email and postal mail in March or April."

Hey Tanya,
I got 110/120 IBT Toefl Test
My personal statement was rather "personal" meaning I talked about my personal background, explained how my personal background led me to chose to study law, told about my professional experiences (only two paragraphs tho because I thought it was a personal statement not a cover letter, but thats my opinion I dunno if its how it is supposed to be), told about my community work etc.
If you need any more advice, dont hesitate!

If you dont mind, could you elaborate a bit about your scholarship? was it offered in the email itself or did u come to know only through the official package mailed to you. or did u write to them after you got admission?

i'm asking cos my email appears to be a rather standard one and doesn't mention any grant at all :-(. I have not received the snail-mail yet. So i am wondering whether to write to them with a virtual begging bowl yet...

about coming to UCLA, its quite high in my list of priorities. got cornell and georgetown as well; but i'd prefer UCLA . california is the big pull - not only is it a stunning place with beautiful climate; its quite multi-racial in demographics and also allows foreigners to sit for the bar.
so hope i get some aid!

I was also accepted to UCLA and still waiting for an answer from UPENN. In addtion, I was offered a job in NY by a small local corporate law firm. Do you think it is better to take the job or complete my LL.M first? Your opinion is really important to me. So please....

and you kj?

In all probability i will go ot Upenn. Will probably decline NYU. Waiting for columbia...but even if get through, i may still choose upenn for the size of the class (85) than columbia (200/250). secondly upenn has a much better campus and the courses at wharton seem too good to let go of. Well if its NYU vs. Upenn - i am going to upenn. If its Upenn vs. columbia - i will be thoroughly confused!!!!!

Cheers!
