Hey- Was wondering the same than Ricey...has anyone heard from Columbia?
Ricey did you apply to the Dec. 15th deadline?

Someone was telling about a 15th March to send the deposit to CLS so i was wondering if this was the deposit deadline for early review applications or not ... because if its not ..it means id better hear from CLS soon otherwise ...

Thanks to everyone !

I received the admission email on 6 February, but I did not apply for early review. I guess they are really deciding "on a rolling basis"....

The March 15th deposit deadline is currently both for early review and for December 15th applications. I did not apply for early review. I sent my application on the December 15th deadline and received the admission letter about 4 weeks later. I suppose they will set a new deposit deadline for late admissions.

Guys,
I applied early action, I received the letter of admission but nothing was said about deadline for deposit.

Perhaps, because I requested financial aid.

Does anyone knows?

Cheers

Mariemboston:
I also requested financial aid, but have not heard about it specifically.
I believe the reason is that both myself and Levin received a partial tuition fee waiver, which looks like an attempt by CLS to lure those LLM applicants who might prefer higher-ranked schools over it, which is why they are pressuring us to commit to CLS before the results for other schools come out.

You're probably right. But then again, I might very well pay the deposit and still decide to go to another School that sends the admission/financial aid notice after March 15th if I think it will be better for my future career and especially if I receive more financial aid - what are 500$ compared to 30k or 40k in scholarship? If you pay the deposit it doesn't mean you have to go to that School...it just makes it a bit more difficult to choose another School.

This is very true; however, for many people this might be an additional consideration that will tilt the scales in favour of CLS, especially if it is going to be a close cut between CLS and the other school. It is sometimes difficult to change your mind once you think you've already settled with an idea.

Anyways, I am currently a poor student and would prefer not to pour $500 down the drain, esp. given that I might have to take out some loans!

Ska,

Congrats on your admission. Could you tell me when CLS sent you an email indicating that your file had been sent to the committee for review? I'm just wondering approx. how long it takes from the time it goes to the committee until the time they render a decision.

Much appreciated.

I received the "application complete" email on 16 January, then the admission email on 6 February.
Replying to previous posts: the admission email contained an answer (negative) to my financial aid request and the indication of the 15 March term for accepting the admission.

Ha! Our theory does not seem to work then.

Mariemboston, maybe you should contact CLS to find out if they have perhaps forgotten to indicate your deposit deadline in your admissions letter.

hEY there;

To those admitted: anyone considering paying the USD 500 deposit by wire t/f to a CLS a/c (there is one available - i googled for it)?

I am thinkg it'll be more convenient than to send the form (which in any event can be faxed) along with a check/draft et al by courier... Any1 knows if it has been done in the past or if its possible - i will check with CLS but was just wanting to know if someone knew already THANX : ))

Got admitted to Columbia and have to pay the $500 deposit before March 15. Did anyone of you try to ask for an extension of this deadline? Would paying the deposit mean that I agreed to a contract? Or could I still change my mind if admitted to another law school?

Would you mind telling me when you got the email stating that your file was complete and being submitted to the review committee?

Thx.

Does anyone know if Columbia has also been sending out rejection emails in addition to the acceptance ones?

it just means you let the $500 down the drain if you decide to accept another school's offer. It's just a way of securing a place. A bit expensive though.

When I was waiting for results, I asked for extensions and kept my money.
