Southamton or Queen Mary. Which one is better?

Please help me decide which law school I should go for LLM. I have offers from Queen Mary and Southamton for International Business Law. Both universities offer me every courses modul I would like to study such as, Inter Trade, Inter Commercial Arbitration, IP, and Inter Competiton law.

I heard that Queen Mary is more famous for Commercial Law than Southamton, which is famous for Maritime law. But when I take a look at the lecturers of both schools, I surprisingly found that Southamton has many more distinguished professors in Commercial law than Queen Mary. For example, Prof. Debattista, Prof. Robert Merkin, Dr. Renato Nazzini etc. Furthermore I would like to know how difficult to complete the LLM from both law schools. For example, how much percentage do I need to get from each subject in order to pass the exam to be able to obtain the LLM degree.

Thank you very much for your kindness.

I am sure others have greater expertise than I can offer, but from my North American perspective, I would choose Queen Mary's Commercial Law Programme. University of London may have greater "recognizability" in North America than Southhampton, which, as you say, has a fine programme also.

Dear Tang,

This is just to let you know that the percentage required to pass exams in Southampton is 40 per cent.

I do not want to advise you on which programme to choose, first of all since I am a teacher at Southampton and this forum is for prospective students, but also because it depends on many factors and is a very personal decision - of course you are welcome to contact the University should you wish any information that might help you with your decision. Whatever you decide, best of luck with your studies and welcome, should you settle on Southampton!

I recommend Queen Mary University. I've evaluated a number of LLM programs on behalf of Canada Law from Abroad and chose to represent Queen Mary University because of the depth of strenght of their LLM
