Did anybody receive a waitlist message from Columbia? If so, what do you think are the chances to be admitted finally? Any thought?
Thanks

I received a waitlist message too.

I had the same questions actually.

Thanks in advance for your help guys. And please, if you are admitted and will turn CLS offer down, let us know!

When did you two receive notification of being placed on the waitlist? I applied in October and am still waiting to hear from them.

I'm also still waiting to hear anything at all. that's interesting about the waitlist though. does that mean they've filled all their places now? and everyone else is waitlisted or outright rejected. guess i should start the nyu app then!

here's an idea (albeit a bad one) - maybe at deadline they start looking at applications by last name and make admission, rejection, and waitlist decisions this way? argh! i don't know...if they haven't reached the p's yet, there's no way they'd finish by may!

I called last week and they told me that my file is still under review. He said he couldn't tell me when a decision would be made but that all decisions will be made by May.

Guys - there's a HILARIOUS thread from last year about people waiting to hear back from CLS. Seems a lot of people heard back mid-April, some not until June! and some got a letter saying 'sorry there has been a delay in processing your application...are you still interested in CLS, or have you chosen another law school?' !!!!!!!!! hahahaha!!! and, that whole everyone has been waitlisted stunt holds no truth.

Thanks Figaro for this good news! : )

llm2007app : I applied for the early review but my application was deferred to the regular cycle bc ETS sent my toefl report with months of delay.
I got waitlisted yesterday.

MJS - sorry to hear about the rejection.

On an unrelated topic - does anyone know the breakdown of domestic vs. foreign students in CLS's LL.M. program? I vaguely recall hearing that the class is only about 10 domestic students and the rest are foreign students, but I haven't found anything to confirm this. Just wondering.

llmapp2007 - are you a domestic student? I don't think they have an allotted amount for each, it prob just turns out there are so few domestic applicants. i'm one too.

Yes, I am a domestic student too. You may be right about the lower number of domestic applicants, but it seems odd to me that of a class of approximately 200, only 10 are domestic students (5%) whereas at NYU approximately 30% are domestic students (125 out of 425 students). Oh well.

that's an interesting statistic. i'm actually surprised there are so many domestic LLMs at NYU! llmapp2007 - did you get your JD stateside?

I was told by CLS that this year (2006-2007) only 2 students had a JD from the US!! I was very surprised.

I haven't heard anything from CLS. Does anyone know what is going on? If people are waitlisted, does it mean that all the spots are gone?

My sense is that the domestic applicants who apply to CLS are usually wanting to enter academia and want to "upgrade" their degree whereas the ones at NYU are often doing the tax LLM and going back into practice. Columbia is reluctant to admit ppl whose goal is academic if they think they will be disappointed in the end since it is such an expensive degree.
Don't forget also that a large portion of the Associates are American JDs (from Yale, Chicago, CLS, etc).

LL.M. is also a vehicle for a practicing attorney who received their J.D's stateside to shift the focus of their career. I am a third year labor & employment attorney, but will be getting my LL.M. so that I can practice human rights advocacy. I have no prior background in the field, so the LL.M. gives me that back bone.

I received an email some days ago saying that I was on the waitlist. When I asked for more information, I received straight away another (very nice) email stating that they had to receive all answers to the offers made in order to determine whether or not they still have space. The person from the admission office kindly asked me to be patient... I believe they have sent out all their offers or that they have already made their decisions and just wait for people to accept or turn down so that they can admit others.
Good luck

Good news! One more spot available at CLS for 2007-08. I just deferred my admission until the next year. I was admitted but with no tuition waiver, could not find enough funds to go there (I'm not eligible for US student loan :(

Does anyone know what happened last year for people waitlisted?
And what about financial aid? Does waitlist means no hope of aid whatsoever if admitted afterwards?
