Hi Thomas, I understand if you find it "hard to say" that foreign students find Lund Human Rights very good, because as you know, you cannot tell how lovely your eyes are, only some other person can give a proper appreciation of it, though the eyes are on you all the time.

Hey, I am applying to Lund University this year. I'd like to know what they are looking for in an student and in an application. Well, I should have asked about the application before because I already sent mine.
Anyway, I'd really appreciate if any of the Lund students or the people who were accepted in the human rights program can tell me more about themselves so I can see if I have a chance.

Hi!
I wrote about myself and my application in the other topic (master degree in law of human rights). I have the same questions as You! :-))
I wonder how many international students may have access.
I don't know anything about the chances, and I can't imagine how they will choose. I have a master degree, 4 years work experience (governemntal sector, but not exactly HR) . I started a Phd course in HR but I interrupted my studies.

Hello Armando,
I am brazilian. What about you? Where are you from?

Hey Satine,

Within 2 weeks since you've submitted your online application form you should have had received an e-mail confirming they've had received your application request.
But your application is not complete until all the required documentation has been received by the Faculty of Law within given deadline.
I hope you have received the e-mail.
About international students: it seems there are more students from abroad than students from Sweden. And as far as I know they accept more than one student from the same nationality.
    Where r u from Satine?

I received the confirmation email of course, I was speaking about the sent documentation. I thought, they would send me more information after finishing the application procedure. But maybe I'm just too
For me the biggest question is the limited number of the students gaining access to Lund. How many students can join the programm?

Nice to meet you Esther. I am glad you received the confirmation email.
I 'd like to receive a confirmation about the documents and all applicaton procedure too. I don't think you're impatient, or maybe I am also impatient. In fact, waiting until may to get the results is a quite long wait! Specially when we know nothing about it. I think It would be fairer if Lund University had published the number of vacancies for each of the courses. What is your option, by the way?

I think the publishing it's a very good idea, unfortunately the Lund Uniersity isn't very communicable..... I've tried to get answers via email, but the administrator refused answering them.
It's a very long period until May, and for me it will be a very important decision. I have to quick my job, let my flat, move to an other country.....it needs time ....

And Alessandra...Yeah, there are pretty good LLM programmes in Canada but I need a change. I also want to get as much international education and/or experiences as I can. The no tuition thing at Lund is a pretty big incentive too. And I have a swedish friend who is doing her undergrad at Lund. I also like the fact that pretty much everyone who I've talked to knows about their human rights programme, it seems to have a very good reputation.
Esther, I checked their wesbsite again and it says you can work in Sweden with a student visa, although they don't recommend it because of the heavy work load.

Hello again,
Last year, I met someone from Lund Uni. He told me that most of the students taken at the LLM are foreigners. So, I think that you guys have big chance. However, I advice you to apply to other LLM programmes as well. I know that Essex and Leiden have a good reputation too. But of course, there are quite expensive tuition fees.

Guys, my brother went to Lund three years ago and describes it as the best kept secret in the academic world. The LL.M class was only 26, mainly from Sweden and around the world. I must caution that you don't start out with this amount of students as the graduate law course is part of a wider programme including politics, business studies and economics. Consequently, expect around 60 students in the beginning, before you branch into your specialist field sometime in the first semester. The idea, I think, is to ensure that you are truly given a proper education. I can confirm that Lund is a great city and Swedish girls...ooh mama mia!!!

Esther,
It depends on what you expect from the future on a professionnal basis. Most of the job opportunities at the UN for intance require a master degree and job experience of at least 5 years. Have a look at the employment website of different international organisations. You'll see if it's necessary or not. As to me, I prefer to have an LLM degree next year, because it's very difficult to study again when you get older. So, here is my point: if you really want to have a master degree, then do it next year because it will be more difficult to return in the classrooms later.

Hello,

I've already a master degree. By us the the faculty of law gives you a master degree, because the programme is 5 years long. I'm very interested in human rights and I would like to find a job in this field. I've work experience as well, but not exactly in connection with HR. I hope that a HR LLM would be a great adventage when I want to get a job at the UN or other international organisations. But maybe I'm wrong... :(( Or I'm a dreamhunter :-))

Yes Alessandra, I found at the website, that there is 2 subject per semester. (2 lessons per week)

I sent an e-mail to Olivia Wahlby and this is what she said:

"The admission process will be completed latest in May, 2007. We can not give any preliminary answers regarding the outcome.

You are, however, able to pre-register for housing, the mentor programme and swedish language programme via the webpage on the following link;

http://cfsrv10.cfadm.lu.se/apply/preregistration.htm

This registration is not in anyway a guarantee for admission at the Master Programme, it is only for ease the housing process once the nomination for the Programme is finished.

You will find more information regarding all above on;

Hy everyone!

I am interested in the Masters Program as well, but I have no clue if you need a lot of prior knowledge in the area of law in order to apply. Also, since I have my BA in social sciences, would it make sense to actually specialize in Human Rights?

What i mean is, since I don't have a BA in business or else, what kind of job opportunities would I have? I checked out the UN websites and it seems it is not very easy to get in these types of organizations.
Oh, and one more question ...I have done my BA in the US, but i am from Europe myself. Do I have to pay tuition or how does that work? Thanks so much everyone!

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the congrats! However, I am still debating whether to attend Lund or Stockholm...We'll see!

Anyhow Vane1977, as for your question: "Hi aude07, congratulatios!! only a question, when did you send your application?"
- I sent all my documentation pretty early (i.e. everything was received before the Feb.1st deadline)

And Satine, do not worry about not having received an answer for them. Many factors can influence when you get a response; ex. choice of programme, when they received your documentation, etc. If Lund is anything like Stockholm University, they might have a pre-selection for some students and this would probably explain why I only have 7 days to give them an answer as to whether or not I will attend the programme. After this pre-selection, they will be sending admission email to the rest of the applicants.

Best of luck to all of you! Cheers.

Hello everyone!

I called Mrs. Putsep today because I am having some trouble with the documents in my application. It seems my TOEFL scores are lost, it's been a long time since I took the exam and they never got them at the Law faculty.

Anyway, what I wanted to share with all of you is that I asked Mrs. Putsep about the admission process and she told me they haven't made a decision on any of the applicants for the Human Rights programmes yet. They will start looking at all the applications this week. She said they receive about 400 applications every year (this is for the three programs in Human Rights: General, IT and Labour), and in the General Human Rights programme, which is the one I am applying to, they accept about 30 students.

So I wish you the best of luck with your applications and I hope someone finds my TOEFL scores because it is already too late to ask for new ones.

You are right cigdem. Mrs. Putsept gave me a couple of numbers that I should call to see if they have my scores. I am gonna do that today.

Satine, I found out because I sent an e-mail asking if they had received all the documentation they needed to process my application. They don't tell you anything unless you ask. She told me it was my responsibility to make sure all the documents were there and not theirs. I would recommend you ask if your application is complete.

Armando, maybe u should ask to ETS center a report stating that they sent ur result to Lund, and then u can send this report to Mrs. Putsep via email or fax. It's not late at all!!

So, just call the numbers that she gave to you (I'm sure she gave me the same numbers), and don't forget to mention the time of sending your results. Keep insisting!!!
Satine, don't stress out. I think that u should send another e-mail, or just call them back. Explain ur situation, tell them that u r worried because it happened to other applicants etc.

Alessandra!!! I am sure you will get in. You are in my toughts and my prayers. I know exactly how you feel!!! I couldn't sleep at all Friday night either stressing out because I didn't apply to any other Universties. Lund was the only place I had applied to so I didn't know what I was gonna do if I didn't get in.
Anyway, I woke up this morning and I had received the e-mail. I am in!!! I am really excited...Now, we just have to wait for you to get it.
I hope you get it soon too.

Maktub, I do hope you get in too. And yeah...I was looking at the old posts and the last person who received his acceptance e-mail last year got it on June 16th. So there is still plenty of time.
Best of luck!

Hey Maktub!!!

Thanks for your soon answer!!!It's really very nice.

When I was saying ERASMUS, I meant that I have been studying at Lund university Juridicum during my Erasmus studies in spring semester 2006. I really enjyed the time spent in Lund and have only all the bets memory about it!So therefore I couldn't tell nothing for you about the Roterdam university:)))Sorry for that:((
Actually I sent my documents, includeded and TOEFL scores, before the 15 of February. I think it was something around 5th of February..Did you apply for Maritime Law at Lund??

From my earlier experence and touch with coordinators from Lund I could say that people in Sweden are quite slow it is really sucks but sometimes you need to wait almost one week to get email with some information you were asking and all my dear I can calm you down it is normal in Sweden. To compare I also was applying to Tilburg, and I get email in 2 hours. Besides, don't worry Maktub if you don't get news from Maritime Law, because on the whole Lund University doesn't say nothing exactly about the dates and terms. And it is really annoying..Wish you all the best!!!!
