Interaction in a small size LLM program!!!
Hi all! A good law school has accepted me to its LLM program for foreign graduates together with an attractive scholarship. I'm very happy with this but have one concern about what they said one of their advantages: The size of the LLM program is small with only one class of 15 students. They said with this small size they would be able to take care of each student.Sat Apr 21, 2007 06:05 AM I don't think so as LLM students will study together with JD students, how come LLM students can have something more special than JD students in the classes? And in addition the LLM community consists of only 15 ppl, so it would be boring, especially in a town which has not much to do. Could you give me some ideas on this issue?? Thanks a lot! |

My LLM class is abt 15 people. I do think it is quite an advantage if you need extra help from i.e. the administration, career services, adviser and etc. It does not make a difference in class, as you have classes with several JD students. Why would it be boring with such a small class? Hopefully you will hang out with JDs too, and thus be more integrated into the school anyway. I really like not being one of many. I makes it easier to interact with Americans, learn better English and understand the culture. Only minus would be less international networking.

It's good to know that. Some LLMs told me that JDs often don't want to hang out with LLMs, that is why I was concerned that the time in US would be boring.

That is probably right a lot of the time, BUT if you make an effort it wont be like that. And it is easier to make an effort if you have to (i.e. don't have a lot of foreigners to hang out with). I'll have to say though, if you don't make an effort you'll probably end up with very few JD friends. They don't generally come to you (this is my third time being an "exchange student", so I know a thing or two about it). I made a lot of effort in the beginning, by i.e. playing sports, going to parties and joining clubs, and it has paid off. Good luck :)

A small llm program is a huge advantage. Ok, the personal attention from the administration and so on is great. But the most important aspect is that there is no specific llm program, so you follow JD courses and interact and work with JD students.Thu May 03, 2007 10:10 AM Yes, this is criticism on Harvard & co.
