I need your advice for choosing among LLM programmes that I have been accepted. I have been accepted to Central European University-International Business Law, Stockholm University- International Commercial Arbitration Law, University of Durham (UK)- International Commercial and Trade Law and University of Amsterdam-International and European Law Any comments about these universities and programmes will be very useful for me. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. The place is amazing. According to someone is a small town. Maybe it's, but istill u can have loads of fun there...maybe also more since u get to know wveryone....and if it's not eenough...Newcastle is 20 mins by train.

I don't know about your country, but in Russia in terms of employment British LLM is more preferable than an LLM from any other European country. Besides, UK is a common law country and their LLM will give you an insight to a common law system. I myself turned down an offer of Central European University and a full scholarship two years ago. After talking to people who went there I realized CEU will not give me what I want (in terms of knowledge and new carreer opportunities). By saying knowledge I mean common law again. As far as I know CEU courses concentate mainly on European law. It will boost your English of course and you will spend an exciting year. And it will enable you to get into a good US school afterwards. But after CEU you might need to go for another LLM to US, after Durham there will be no need. By the way, I never regretted my choice about CEU. I received another year of working experience instead and this year was granted a full shcolarship from GW law school (US).

It is the only program of its kind where you get to learn all that is there to learn about International Arbitration. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the program emphasis on the skills required to effectively argue cases in an arbitration setup. However, I would advice you take up this program only if you are sure about International Arbitration as your area of specialization. I thought that Durham is the best option and after posts of giovannig, veterok and lunianil I am sure about this. But I can go to Durham only if I will get a scholarship. Because I have not enough financial resources. Also there is a chance to get a scholarship from the Univ. of Amsterdem. But CEU has already offered Partial Fellowship and I have confirmed my place. Veterok, congratulations for the GW. I am from Azerbaijan and in our country CEU has a good reputation, maybe not as a UK university. But its alumni can find good jobs and they advise others to go there. AJ, I decided not to go to Stockholm. I wish you success in your studies. Best wishes, AzeriLawyer

I was considering GW very seriously but since already obtained deferral from Columbia was more likely to wait for a year and go there after saving some money. However, I received Muskie scholarship few weeks ago, which will cover not only tuition fee but all my living expenses. I chose to go to the US under Muskie and am currently anxiously waiting to find out about my placement in the US. If you are interested, I can tell you where I end up studying.

I tried Muskie last year, but I wasn't that lucky. I thought that in the Muskie program are engaged US universities of a bit "lower" level, but Duke is definitely good, at least that's the idea I've got of it. Good luck!!!

But yes, law placement in usually made at a second tier law schools but some finalists get placed in top schools like Duke, Michigan and even Columbia (for ex. Georgia's president, Saakashvili studied law in Columbia under Muskie program).

As for scholarships, Swedish Institute provides a few scholarships but the application deadlines for programs (Arbitration LLM included) beginning this fall have already passed. And the education is free of charge. But you can apply for the next year. I am last year student of BDU and from August I will study International Business Law at the CEU.
