As far as I know, american employers definitely prefer JDs. I've even heard opinons that an average graded JD, from an average ranked University, has more chances to land a job in the US than a top-notch law-school LLM graduate, who is not a JD. Don't know, though, how close to reality it is...

hey, there! I have been advised by my lawyer to do JD versus LLM. It's a 100 thousand $ investment you will be able to make within your firts 2 years.

Which JD? I don't think there are more than one type?Tue May 08, 2007 07:22 PM A JD is normally 3 years, but some schools will let you get it in 2 years if you already have a law degree from another country. I am not sure which schools, I guess you will have to ask around. I only know of University of North Dakota, because it is our friendship school, but it is a tier 4 school, so I would not recommend getting a JD from there if other schools let you get a JD in 2 years as well. To get in you will probably need to take the LSAT, in addition to everything else an LLM student has to do. |
