Any info on the new New York Law LLM?
Fri Apr 08, 2005 02:09 AM
Hello all,
I attend a second-tier law school. I'm graduating this year (at the lower half of my class) and needless to say, my GPA is not very competitive. However, I'm on a journal, moot court, and I founded my law school V.I.T.A. Chapter (fyi, "V.I.T.A." stands for "Volunteers for Income Tax Assistance"). Will any of these extracirricular activities help? Or are grades the 'end all - be all' when it comes to the Tax LLMs?

I highly doubt that I'll get into NYU's LLM, so I'm interested in Boston and New York Law. Has anyone applied to the new New York LLM program? If so, does anyone care to share the lowdown as far as criteria (i.e., law school grades, LSAT scores, law school activities, etc...???)

Thanks for any advice you may want to offer!

I can't offer any advice, but I will say that I am similarly situated (second tier school, decent (but not outstanding) grades), law review experience, etc) and thought that the new tax program at New York Law might be a good option. I am assuming it is not as competitve as NYU or Fordham. I will be in NYC later this month and plan to visit the school. I will let you know what I find out about admissions criteria.

Natalie,
I find that members of law reviews will receive some deference 'cause the sheer act of getting on is indicative of your intellectual skills. Thus, you may not have as hard a time as me, 'cause I'm on one of the journals, not law review.

I really do appreciate any info you care to share. None of the LLM admissions catalogs provide stats as to what their criteria is.

Look forward to hearing from you.
