Hi every one!

Just got my US visa today. It is not hard to get as long you have your financial documentation right.

Good luck!

I have yet to send docunents to law school for sending I 20 form. How much time law school will take in sending I-20 ? Do we need to keep total cost amount in bank to get Visa? If I have 25% in my bank, 25% in parents bank and Bank's letter for rest 50% as a loan ,will it be O.K ?

I guess it will be fine. You know mine was a little easier coz I had a full tuition and all living expenses schol.

But I guess, what is sufficient is to show your parents' financial standing coupled with a written undertaking from them that they will sponsor your studies.

Hope this helps!

I am from Uganda. It might depend on where you come from if your country is deemed to have terrorist bases or sponsors, I think.

Dear Marungu
I got my visa today, I am very happy. I was required to show only the I-20, the SEVIS and the Embassy forms(D-156/157/158) and of course my passport. That was it. It took me two minutes. By the way, I am from Colombia.
Where are you going to study? As for me, I am goint to Penn.
Regards,
SOFI

Sofi: what kind of documents did you show on your visa interview?

I am going to show my personal and parents bank account, and another from a sponsor. Both my parents, and sponsor bank accounts will be attached to the proper letters where they guarantee that the will give me the money.

Of course that with the 3 bank accounts I have more than enough to cover the expenses of the LL.M

In you experience, will you consider this documents enough to obtain the visa?

Greetings from Mexico!

Toņo.

Hola Antonio

You will be fine, do not worry. I think the most difficult part of this whole process of applying to an LLM program is to get a letter of admission. After that everything else is not as complicated. On the other hand, I have heard that students applying for graduate studies get visas easier that those applying for other types of studies.
So, no problem at all. You will get your visa.

Hallo to all,

Has anybody met the embassy's requirement to pay for education prior to the interview?

The embassy in my country (Ukraine) demands that the tution fees should be paid prior to obtaining visa. At my convenience this strange demand is putted forward only by US. embassy in my country.
Has someone met the same same problem in his country of residence?

Hi, how are you?

I think the embassy at your home country seems to have another requierements to obtain the visa.

I am pretty sure that in all colleges first you obtain the visa eligibility document, and then, you can go to the embassy.

The U.S. embassy can not force you to pay, before you are fully admitted.

Besides, the visa eligibility document that is issued by the University, by itīs own name and definition says that first you obtain this document and then the embassy issues the final visa.

I consider you better visit the web site of the embassy at your home country, and also the web links of the inmigration services of the U.S.

Greetings from mexico.

Toņo.

The administrative quest to the USA... yep... 3 more forms with stupid questions (when do I plan to return? lol) to fill in, another two fees to pay, as I am making an appointment in another country than my home country: proof of my ties with this "third" country...

O yeah... LLM students have to much time. That's for sure.

Dear Rudik
When I was trying to schedule the visa interview, I was told by an officer that I would need to show evidence regarding the payment of tuition fees. I told her it would be impossible since I cannot pay unless I get a visa. She said ok. I recommend you to visit the following website in order to find out the usual documents required for a visa: travel.state.gov/visa/tempvisitors_types_students.…
Hope this helps.

Hi i think this issue of visa varies, i have not gone to the embassy yet, but i will very soon. In Nigeria where i come from they are "nuts" they do whtever they like and most times they get on your nerves, they really dont follow a laid down procedure for giving visas, i wont be surprised if they ask if i have paid before they give me a visa. But i am hoping i will get a visa. Proper documentation is all you should need to get a visa, your school fees should be paid after you get a visa.

Dear All,

Thank you very much for your opinion. I've already received the I-20 form, but when I called to the embassy and told them that the University will invoice its students only in August, they told me "but you still have to pay prior, 'cause they (the officer) won't give you a visa".
I think I should call straight to the counsel and describe the situation. 'cause u are right, their demands are nonsence.

Hi,

I'm going to send my I20 form to the university. Do I have to attach any documents to this form, when sending it or I have to show them only during the interview?

Innocence:

I have not receive my I-20 form, but, from what some friends have told me, the form is issued as one of the many steps to obtain your visa, so, the form weīre talking about, I think it would became "property" of the embassy, īcause once they think you are eligible, they issued the visa, and therefore, you will not need the form anymore.

Besides, once you get your visa, you would not need any other document (regarding the inmigration service) to study in the U.S.

Greetings, and good luck on your interview!

In my case, they made me send the letter from my bank (or my sponsor`s) with the I-20 form. I guess all the schools do.

Hi Sofi

good to meet you on this forum (I bet we've met of the Penn Law discussion board). I'm Obafemi and will also be joining the Penn Law Class of 2008. Attended my visa interview yesterday (05/30/07). It went well and I'm to pick up my passport (with visa) on friday.

Obtaiining visa from Nigeria (where i come from) is hard as Klaw pointed out. The guys at the Embassy just believe you want to immigrate to US and ask all sorts of questions and deny you visa for all sorts of unthinkable reasons. So, I believe its not how perfect your financial documents are, but the grace of God (which some would call luck).
I have no doubt that its that grace I enjoyed and I'm so happy and really looking forward to joining the Class at Penn Law. Hope to meet with you soon. I plan to arrive in Philly on or before July 7 (come 2 think of it, its just around the corner really).

Hi guys!
How many pages are there in the I-20? I received 3 of them, and it seems as if the second and the third are not necessary for the embassy interview.
Please correct me if I'm wrong

I'll advice you take the form as was sent to you to the embassy. Pages 1 and 3 are absolutely important because page 3 record any application for job while you are in school. And these Visa Officers at the US Embassy may make an isuue out of any little thing however "slight". Please go to the Embassy with all documents and let them determine which is necessary or not. Is better to err on the side of caution.

Is there any difference between a 10 yr multiple entry US F1
visa and a 2 yr multiple entry US F1 visa, considering its the date of completion mentioned in the I20 and the D/S (duration of status) put on the I94 card [usually the same as the I20 date] which governs how long a student can remain in the US? So basically if the LLM course is to finish in May 2008 - then even with a 10yr multiple entry F1 visa do u stand to gain in any way or are you in the same position as a person with a 2 yr multiple entry US F1 visa - since both have the D/S expiring at the same time, i.e., the completion of the LLM course??

Can anyone who knows (out of experience or otherwise) clarify?

Thanx :)
