Columbia vs Cambridge
Hi - I wish I'd found this website earlier!! I've been lucky enough to get into both Columbia and Cambridge (no funding though). I want to study IP and then work in either NY or London. Does anyone have any experience at these colleges? Cheers.

I did my LLM at Columbia and am going on to Oxford for my DPhil. I think you might need to figure out where you definitely want to work. My feeling is that Columbia might be a better option because you can get a job in either NY or London with an LLM from Columbia but it will be harder to get a job in NY with a LLM from Cambridge. I got job offers from both places with my Columbia LLM.Thu May 24, 2007 01:15 PM I'd also have a think about what sort of place you want to live in. Are you a big city or small town person? You should figure out where you want to work and then go to the school in that jurisdiction. It will help with networking, will be way more convenient for interviewing, and the focus of the courses will be more relevant. One other consideration to add: what is your prior educational background? If you have an amercian JD, then even if you want to work in NY, I'd consider Cambridge for the fun of it; but if you have a non US law degree and you want to work in NY, then it might be more difficult (though not impossible by any measns) to crack that market without a US LLM. Thanks fly girl and Thanks equity's darling. You've both given me really good advice. I have an LLB from a common law country. From your advice it sounds like it would be hard to get a job in NY without a US LLM. I am certainly now leaning towards Columbia! Thanks for your time in answering my post.

I've gone for Columbia! See you in NYC! When are you arriving? Are you doing a summer programme first. I just need to be there for 11 August international student orientation. But not sure how much earlier to arrive than that? Anyone know how early you can move into Columbia accomm?

Definitely i d go for Columbia. but i have a much more serious tighter choice to make among four absolutely fantastic universities. I have been admitted to NYU, Mcgill, chicago and northwestern to study international Business law. Now, choosing among them is turning to be a nightmare. so i have decided to turn to the wise men on this board for infomation that will aid my decision. Any information on theses schools that will aid my decision making will be welcome. thank you

Columbia vs Cambridge
In my opinion, you can eliminate McGill from your tight choice. It is clearly not in the league of the other institutions generally and certainly not in business law. Mon Apr 28, 2008 06:10 PM Chicago and NYU are excellent and that is a difficult decision. Northwestern after those two. Good luck with your decision. |

Columbia vs Cambridge
I read Law at Columbia and Cambridge and I think Cambridge is far better than Columbia in some areas, such as International Law.
