Dear Alwin,

Thank you for your question. This programme has been running as Business and Trade Law for quite a few years and students are very positive about the programme. You might want to check our online newsletters where alumni share their experiences and tell how this ll.m. programme has helped them in finding a good job. The programme is renamed to BCML this year as Maritime Law is a new specialisation within the programme.
As far as the level of this programme: in the Netherlands we have a 3 year Bachelor programme, then a 1 year Master (which we call Master level) and then students can continue with our post academic programmes such as BCML. We look forward to meeting you in September!

Kind regards, Anette van Sandwijk

Dear Alwin,

Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself: I am head of the LL.M. office. You can find our online newsletters at: http://www.llm-erasmus.org/?do=Newsletter/index. In each newsletter an alumnus is introduced. Regarding housing; I am sure you will hear from our housing office. It is possible to look for housing yourself: http://www.eur.nl/english/prospective/housing/organisations/ but rooms are usually the same price.

Kind regards,
Anette van Sandwijk

Hello,

Career prospects are good for BCML graduates. As a graduate you will have a firm background on the essentials of business and trade law, combined with specialized knowledge, you will be able to negotiate and structure business transactions across countries, you will have practical skills necessary to deal with business problems and disputes in an (inter)national context. Furthermore, you will have acquired good debating and analyzing skills.

Career perspective:
Business Transactions: business consultancy (as company lawyers), legal advisors, attorneys. Corporate Law: lawyer/consultant in financial markets and international institutions, Maritime Law: advisory positions to governments, legal departments of shipping companies, ports authorities, as well as in the specialised field of maritime law litigation and arbitration

Hope this answers your question.

Kind regards,
Anette

Thank you for your reply. Please provide information how much ECTS BCML consists. The Dutch Bar requires a total of 200 ECTS can you provide information on whether BCML entitles admission in BAR ?

Hello,

The BCML programme comprises 60 ects (which is standard). In Holland you will only get access to the bar if you have both a Bachelor Degree in Law (180 ects) and a Master (60 etcs)
(called: Civiel Effect).

Kind regards,
Anette
