Hello again Masterstudent,

Yes, I know that students from the EU are so lucky if they want to go to Holland. Everything is cheaper for you but not for rest of us. I, as a student of law, feel here a discrimination but what can I do. Shouldn't the education be same for everyone, should it? After all we are students. Well, enough of my pathetic story. I am now sad :-((

Anyway, thanks for help. I will try everything to do Master's in Englsih language.

So, have you finished your Master's at Leiden? How was it? Have you met a wonderful people? Tell me something about it.

Hello again Masterstudent,

Thanks for everything ;) I wish you all the best in the future education and after this the best employment ever :-)

One of my friends from Serbia is there. She is doing the Master's of Advanced studies. It costs about 15 000 euros but she has got a scholarship from the Serbian Government and she has been doing something at the Tribunal with the Serbian lawyers. She is a really lucky girl. Actually, I think she finished it last month...ouh I have to call her.
Her impressions are good. Everything is in written form. You can easily pass exams, no oral exams at all.

Hello Rodyka,
I am planning to apply there for 2008/2009, too. The deadline is until 1 February every year. Where are you from?
I think that University deosn't provide any accomodation. You will have to find it on your own...maybe University can provide help only in looking for accomodation.

hello sanja84,

i'm from romania, i graduated from law school this summer.I don't know for sure if i'm going to apply to stockholm university, i'm still getting used to the idea of living all by myself for one year in a foreign country. I understood that there isn't a tuition fee, but you have to proove that you are able to sustain yourself with 700 $ per month. And there is the problem of accomodation. I believe it is preety expensive.
Have you apllied yet?

Hello Rodyka,
I will graduate in May, next year. I will apply before my graduation. I am looking forward to living in another country...new people, new everything...hey we have only one life, we have to live a little :-)))

Yes, there is free of charge and in Norway, too. The accomodation per month is about 200-300 euros. I will try to apply for a scholarship, too. So, can I tell that my parents will give the money montly for me. I don't have that kind of money on my acount ;))))

So, how is living in Romania? It is so cool now when you are in the EU, you can go wherever you want and whenever you want...we are not able to do that :-(

I didn't know about Norway. What University? Living in Romania is great in some ways, but in others not that great. I mean, here with little money you can have a more than decent living, every teenager goes out in clubs, discos, movies and so on eventhough they are not wealthy. We go to restaurants and out in the evening almoust every day or weekend. So, our lifestyle is very high. But with the same amount of money, in another country from Europe you would be kind of poor. That's why i'm stiil in doubt whether to go to master in a foreign country or to stay in romania. Because i'm used to a different lifestyle, i'm not sure i'll accomodate very easily. Also, I'm not used with cold weather, and I know that in Sweden it's very cold most of the year.
Concerning our entering in the EU, we don't see the diference yet. I went to italy this summer and I had to use my passport, eventhough by law, we are not oblidged to do so, we can use only the identity card.

Hi Rodyka,
Yes, you used a passport but you don't need visa for entering in any state in the EU. Unlike you, we need visa for almost every country. Imagine how long we have to wait if we want to go to the seaside...too long....

Just like in Romania, we have the same standards. Every teenegar can go out into clubs and drink whatever they want. We can go out every night and still have money for anything we like or want. The salaries are low but the prises of living here are too. So, it is same jst like in Romania. Yes, I know that youg people are livining different life style than us there but I would like to see other countries even if I would live poorer for a year. After all I think I could manage myself there for a year...come on...we could be together there. My boyfriend will apply, too. But, once again I understand you completely...I am not sure yet I will go there but it is for sure that I will apply so we will see what happens :-)))

Are you male or female? We are having a nice discussion here :-)))) Maybe none of us go there...ha,ha :-)

Hello again sanja,
I'm female. You are lucky that your boyfriend is appling too. My boyfriend is older than me and he studied in a different field, management and marketing, and at the time being, he is working, so he won't be able to come with me. This is another issue that I have to think about. I'm stil thinking of other universities, in other countries, but it's the tuition fee that raises problems. I guess I'll have to talk it over with my parents and take the best decision for me. When are you going to apply?

Hi Rodyka,

I see what is your problem...well you two have to discuss what is best for you. One year is nothig if you are sure in your love. Well, this is not the thread where you and I should talk about love isuess :-) You come and visit the BBC Learning English Boards, we could speak there about everything you like. The site is really safe, like this one, so you should not worry about it. We all come there to learn English and meet many new people. So, give it try if you want. When you go there you will be able to start a new discussion so tell me your nickname there and I will find you. Okay?

How old are you? I am 23 years old.

Yes, I know that tution fees make a problem but you are now in the EU so everything is cheaper for you. In Holand for students from the EU the tution fee about 1 500 euros and for me is 10 000-15 000 euros...huge one, isn't it?! The only problem would be living, accomodation. I will apply in Sweden and Norway 'cos of free education for every student, no discrimination...the only problem is 700-800 euors per mont...but I will talk to my parents so I will see later what happens. I think that I won't go there but I will apply anyway.....maybe I win a lottery :-))))

Sanja ;)

I'm 22 years old. I'm taking the TOEFL exam. I wanted to take Cambridge, but it's organised only in december and until then I hope I would have already applied to master programme. I studied english since I was in the second grade, but during law school, so for four years, I didn't have the opportunity to study it anymore, because our legal system is similar to the french one, so the accent was put on french, not on english. Now, I'm trying to remember what I've learned before and study more to take the TOEFL exam.

Hi Rodyka,

No, it is not the same. It is GIRLENGLISHFAN1. You make your own thread and I will come to see you so will others. You will have many new friends there. We can talk about everything we like ;)

You just write who you are, where you come from and things like that. May be you won't see your message right away beacuse you are new there. The moderators must look it first and then they will publish it. Just wait a little.

I am now there chatting in the thread some girl called Dashenka from Ukraine

Hi Damarcan,

I don't have an example of the reference letter that you are looking for. You make one for yourself and give it to a professor to sign it but they usually know how to make it. If they write it in native language you just go and translate it into English language at a notary.

My professors will make it in English beacuse they have made it before for some other students. Where are you from?

You can apply for more than one Master Programme. I don't know any tricks but nothing will help you. You don't have to be an excellent student but with God's help they will accept us all :-)))) kidding a little, hope you don't mind.

Anyway, are you applying for 2008/2009 year or just asking for the future plans in your life? Have you passed the IELTS or the TOEFL? I haven't done any tests yet but must do it as soon as possible. I am afraid of it like someone will kill me :-)

Hello Damarcan,
I have found a couple of sites that give examples of reference letter for different situations. There you will find a couple of examples for us, students :-)

jobsearch.about.com/od/teenstudentgrad/a/studentre…

www.naceweb.org/about/public/formfacref.htm

and there is more of this. You just type 'reference letter for students' or something similar on google and that is. Simple, isn't it?

Anyway, you didn't tell me where you are from. Could you tell me something about the IELTS. Was it hard? What band score did you get? We need 6.0 if we do the IELTS and around 90 if we do the TOEFL. Am I right?

Thank you very much for your interest, i prepared some letters, i am from Turkey, i work in İstanbul, i took İelts, and my overall band score is 6.0 , the limit i mean, but my speaking section was very very bad, so it would be nicer, like 6.5 or 7.0. İ cannot compare Toefl or İelts, cause i only took one, Toefl would be better, because, almost every university request Toefl points, especially American Universities, so İelts look like more local by comparison to Toefl, Thus Toefl is much more popular and useful. i do not want to offer sth to you, it can cause a problem anyway.İ only know one thing that, at TOEFL you speak to computer, after looking to som pictures, writings and listening to sth. You comment about those stuff. but at İelts you speak with an Englishman. he/she gives you a subjects to discuss and ask you sth. exp. They ask me what do i think about flowers, movies, public events. On the other hand at listening part, unfortunately you do not listen from computer with headphone at İELTS. you listen it in a hall with about 40-50 people, and it was hard for me to concentrate on. But at Toefl you use a computer and a headphone, so the systems of these two exams are really different, at İELTS, i believe that British Council aimed to prepare an exam which can meausure student's reaction and talent in a university class. Because you get exam with people in a big hall like a university class. And you read some materials which are a part of an article or magazine or a book, you speak with an Englishmen alive, as if you spoke with a teacher. But Toefl looks like more private with headphone and computer. İ think this is enough description. Your choice, i wish you the best. Bye

Hi Damarcan,

Thanks for detail explanation! So, what do you think which one is easier to be passed? Under your description I think that the TOEFL is easier but I don't have problems in communication skills beacuse I have some of my friends who are native speakers of English and plus I attend some lessons where teachers are native speakers, too. I will from September attend my lessons again. We are on a holiday now.
Have you already graduated at your University? I haven't yet. I will apply before my graduation beacuse I want to continue my studying right away I finish my basic studies. Expected graduation on June, 2008. and classes start on August for 2008/2009.

Have you contacted Stockholm University? I have and recieved an e-mail from Mrs Viktoria Pettersson. She explained me some basic stuff about programmes. I will see what will happen later on. I only need to do some test of English language and have everything else needed for the application form. After this I will send it to Stockholm, on November, eventually on December.

What about you? When will you send it?
