how can we convert upper second class degree in % marks

can someone pls tell me
what is the indian equivalent of UK's upper second class hons degree.
I m an indian student with 51% marks in LLB & done 3 PG diplomas . What chances do i stand to get addmission in LLM frm good uk law schools.

since my graduation(BA HONS) marks are 74%(merit division) can I get addmission on its basis.

Hi Nitin,

I am aware that a UK first class degree is 70% and above. However, am not very sure what percentage is considered second upper class. I guess it should be 65% - 69.99%

Please rely on another reply to your post as well.

Degrees are classified in the UK as follows:
1st: 70%+
2:1: 60-70%
2:2: 50-60%
3rd: 40-50%

I'm not sure but I believe that institutions are more concerned with first degrees.

3rd: 40-50
Pass: too disgraceful to mention

Although this is noted I wonder the fate of Indians, as it's difficult to score over 60% in Indian evaluation system. A brilliant student scores first class (60% and above in Indian context). During my batch, the university topper scored 67% (It is generally the average of all five years of LL.B). If my score is 62% I wonder where I stand in an international strata. Do people like Nitin and myself do not have our fair-share of availing education from reputed international institutes?

Can anyone pull us out of deep waters?

Hi. I graduated with 61% LLB from Bangalore University. like you said, its tough for Indian law students to manage above 65% I was rejected by Cambridge, but accepted by LSE, UCL, Kings, SOAS, Queen Marys, Warwick, Westminster.
So I think u definitely have a chance.

No, 3rd is equal to Pass. If you get below 40% you fail.

Hi

I did my LLB from Delhi University in 1997.

I agree with most persons on this post that getting a 60% in Delhi University is definitely not easy and as far as I remember only 5-10 people out of a batch of 500 had a 60%. The topper in my batch was 62%.

It seems that in recent times it's become easier to score more than 60% in the LLB in Delhi University and other law colleges.

I also feel that most of the US Univs concentrate more on your LLB marks than a combination of marks and significant work experience. But having written to a number of UK Univs, I think they are more flexible in regard to marks combined with significant work experience.

That's my take on this.

Hey ......i am a student of Pune university studying in five year law programme i would like to know..

A) While calculating your entry requirment percentage, average of all five years is calculated or the third year(Graduation Year) and Fifth year (Final Year).

B) Further more whether Diplomas and PG Diplomas add value to your CV and increase your prospects for an LLM

C) And whether internships in good law firms in India, enhance your propects,if yes then what is the ideal no. of internships neccessary

graduated wit 60 percent from Bangalore University , got accepted in all tat i applied.. Kings, Queen mary, birmingham and cardiff..

dont worry they all know the equivalent score to their first division here.

answer to
A) all five years is calculated
B) definitely wil add value, but dont count on it. they take in people with good grades even if they have nothing in addl in CV
C)same as above, but i know people wit none who have got into Queen mary. i myself didnt have a too impressive CV(just three internships) .. got in..

Education is an industry here.. anyone who applies with a cool, calm head well within the deadline dates, with decent scores(even 57 is fine) but gets English scores rite(which most indian students dont have a problem with) gets into all but the three universities -- Oxford, Cambridge and LSE.. and also UCL to some extent

when do u think is the correct time for applying to these colleges.....and would doing summer school from LSE help.........
