Hi everybody

My name is Jan, I come from Germany and I'm going to start a LLM programme this year. Because of my very very very late decision to do this step I applied (late July) at nine (!) law schools. Just to make sure. I chose only programmes with a specialisation in commercial, business and trade law. Now, I got nine unconditional offers: Durham, Exeter, Norwich (UEA), Bristol (UWE), Buckingham, Essex, Kent, Nottingham and Dundee. Now I not know what to do. Sure, I know about Durham's ranking. However, should that be the only selection criterion?

What would you do in my shoes? - any experiences with the programmes, accomodation, surroundings, travel connections (optimally to Eastern Germany) - Thx @ all

I would personally narrow it down to Durham and Nottingham. They have the best reputation (although Essex is great for international human rights). Without a doubt at a minimum I would not be considering Exeter, Bristol, Buckingham or Kent. As to accomodation, surroundings, travel connections your on your own there. I have my doubt that anyone could advise you on so many places. Regarding Nottingham the nearest airport is East Midlands and while the town is not exactly beautiful the campus is gorgeous. Accomodation is generally student rubbish but then you get what you pay for. Best of luck with your decision

For commercial law go to Nottingham... the law school is well facilited.. and you will be taught by top lecturers, like: Prof Bennett. etc..

My second choice would be Durham.

And with all due respect to other schools in ur list.. they cant be compared to Durham and Nott..

Good Luck.

Thx for your helpful answers. At first I was very enthusiastic about Exeter. Why dont you recommend it?

And yes, it is the UWE.

I think I'll decide between Durham, Nott and Norwich.

I think it just doesn't have a good reputation. I certainly know noone who went there and it wasn't even mentioned to me as an option when I was applying for LLM places.

ozman, I don't think any of us here in the forum can give you an answer that could help. i understand the urgency of your situation but i believe it would be best if you contact the law departments of all the universities that interest you.

well... i have decided to forego the scholarship as i believe that working for sometime and then applying to a top law school is better than going to a normal one in a hurry. Yes i will not get a fully funded scholarship but then atleast i will be in peace that i went to a really good university.
