refference letter...is it a must???

guys....is there any of u having trouble when providing the refference letter?
because I do have one....
my former professor currently not availlable(he is out of country) until next year... n do u think it would b okay if i can only provide 1 letter? n would it afect the consideration of my approval?
I wish to start my LLM next sept (sept 2008)

Yups, I agree with Yellow. As i found out when i applied to my current LLM, reference letters are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

Since most LLM programs ask for the moon anyways in terms of pre-requisites (or close to the moon hehz), usually applicants would have similar grades and so it's your reference letters and personal statements which differentiate you.

From my own experience I would definitely recommend backing up an application with two reference letters, while the lack of one letter needn't be a exclusion criterion:
One of my designated referees, both of them had agreed to send the reference letter directly to the relevant law schools, did not send the letter at all.

While none of the law schools rejected me straight away, half the law schools sent a conditional offer requiring one more reference letter.
The other law schools instantly sent an unconditional offer, therefore some of them appear to handle the "two reference letters"-criterion quite flexibly.

(He finally sent the reference letter to my home address last week, but I had already accepted one of the unconditional offers months ago.)
To cut a long story short - the lack of one reference letter almost certainly will narrow your choices down...
