YALE LLM: How did you get in?

I would like to ask people here if and how they were able to get in Yale's LLM program?

I really want to focus on the academe and I have a strong bias in favor of Yale.

I would like to solicit information as to how people were able to successfully get accepted.

If you are from Yale (alumni or current student) or know someone personally, kindly reply.

Any information in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

I didn't get into Yale when I applied (about 8 years ago now), but I know people who did, and all of them graduated in the top 10 students (not just top 10%) in their home country law schools, went to the top 3 or 4 law schools in those countries, and had already been published in leading international law journals. I

Yale LLM is a program for scholars. If you want to be a professor and really enjoy constitutional law and philosophy you should apply to Yale. You need a scholar resume to get in: top schools, some kind of teaching experience and a lot of publications. I didnt apply to Yale, but I have a lot of friends from Yale.

You make it sound ridiculously hard to get in. But I would think that perhaps it is... now that's depressing...

This is more positive. I love philosophy and constitutional law. I have teaching experience, and some number of publications... with that I at least feel hopeful in applying... :)

I applied, too. I have my fingers crossed, as I did well and went to a top law school in my country. However, I know Yale is a long shot. it would be a dream come true.

They sent me a notification 4 days after they received my online application to confirm the receipt of it. Then they sent me another e-mail to tell me I should send the supporting documents (LORs, transcript and TOEFL) in order for my file to be complete. The supporting documents arrived there over a week ago (according to FedEX) and my TOEFL report should be there by now as well (it takes two weeks after the request to the ETS). However, I haven't received a notification that my file is complete. Does anyone of you have the same problem? I' ve started to worry about it....

I have the same worry. I sent my application through FedEx. However, I have yet to receive an email that they have received my application...

I don't think we have to worry vogelfrei, since most applicants tend to express the same misgivings (at least, this is what I realized while reading forum discussions of previous years). On the other hand, Yale says that applicants should contact the Graduate Programs Office only if they haven't received a notification until the 15th of January. Thus, I guess we have plenty of time to be notified. Where do you come from anyway?

Perhaps I should contact the Graduate Programs Office. But in any case, I wait it out until January 15. Plenty of time then.

I am from Greece vogelfrei. It seems that Yale' s LLM is popular all over the world! That guarantees at least a cultural diversity of Yale's student body. What other schools are you applying to?

Wow cool. It does seem like it is popular the world over. Some of my friends would argue, not as popular as Harvard or what not. But popularity wasn't my main consideration. It's the community and the environment I'm after. And yes, seeing as how you and I are both from different regions of the globe--it may be safe to say that there would a cultural diversity in Yale's student body. Hopefully, we both get in. Because in my case, I have not considered applying elsewhere.

You applied only to Yale?! That's definitely impressive. You're a brave man vogelfrei! Given that you should be a higly self-confident person in order to apply only to Yale, I assume that your credentials are excellent! You should be top of the top! It is going to be a unique experience studying with you at Yale next year (if we both get in).

Hey L&E-pil... naaaahh. It's not being brave. Somehow, bravery can sometimes be akin to stupidity. My credentials are ok. I don't think I'm top of the top. I'm just an average guy. I'd be lucky to get in. But I really like Yale and it's been like a dream for me to bask in the New Haven school where Lasswell and McDougal walked. I like to think that in Yale, I will unlearn many formalistic things that have been drummed in me. Plus after years of being "graded" I would like to experience learning The Law without the grades.

And don't think so high of me because of shockresist's comment. He's just saying that because he owes me some dumplings last time I was in Beijing. Haha.

It would be a great honor to walk the hallways of Yale with you.

I got a confirmation email today saying that my application is complete and that decisions will be made sometime in March or April.

I really hope same time next year, I'll be attending classes in New Haven.

I hope others received it too. Good luck to us!
