Master in European Litigation - University of Luxemburg
Hi everyone,Fri Oct 05, 2007 04:23 PM Is there anyone that can tell me some more about the master in European Litigation, given by the University of Luxemburg? What is the reputation of this master? How is Luxemburg to live in? How big are the classes? How are the courses? So I clearly have a lot of questions. I hope some students are on this site... Thank you!! Karen |

At least, I hope it will take me only one year :-) I searched some people trough Facebook and I've contacted them, but they haven't answered me so far.. If I do get an answer, I'll tell you. I don't know if it's possible to find a job in luxemburg, but i guess it will be. They need work people over there too :-) I'm from Belgium :-) I study in Brussels, but I live in Antwerp :) From where in Italy are you? Bye! Karen |

I accidently clicked something, i didn't even know you could block people here :-) so, i'm sorry :-) it's fixed now... i believe that for the luxembourgish law, you also have to know german... and i don't speak it. but if I have the possibility i will take it without a doubt... just not in german then ;-) we'll see :-) will you send in an application? i will start with learning french then... i really think most things happen in french over there... bye! karen |

HiSun Jan 13, 2008 09:24 PM I'm from Luxembourg and I've done one year of legal studies there before going to London so I might be able to reply to some of your Q's! :-) So Luxembourg's fun to live in, but do no go there if yo expect a big or busy city. It's nice and quiet but also expensive. The law faculty itself has a good reputation. Classes are small, everything's well organised and teachers are highly qualified and in gerenal also really motivated. As for finding a job it should be fine but note that the regulations to sit the bar exam are done in a way to make it really difficult for foreign jurists to pass them. You do not need to speak German, as the whole legal stuff is in French. When applying for a job English is absolutely necessary and German more than welcome. Voilà! |

I have contacted some students from the last year and they told me that most of the courses are given in french, mostly because it is the 'official working language' of the Court, so the judges all speak french.Sat Feb 02, 2008 09:25 PM I think following the master will give you the opportunity to improve your french, no? If you take a course in the summer or something like that, i hope you will be able to be a student in the program. But i think it's something you have to feel yourself... Karen |

Hi, I'm also interested in this Masters but I have a few questions... I'm a bit confused by the earlier posts - is this a fully accredited "LLM" course? I'm also wondering if someone knows what the fee situation is. Are those interested in the Masters mainly interested in qualifying as Luxembourg lawyers? I would really like to study a bilingual French/English EU Law Masters but it doesn't seem like there any many around! Any info or personal experiences would be much appreciated :)!

Hi! I did my two first year at the university of Luxembourg and decided to that same master but at the University Paris II Panthéon Assas, mainly because I wanted to stay in Paris for another year. The master in Luxembourg is good as many judges etc from the ECJ are lecturers. However it's not very well-known, and from what I've heard it's not a very demanding nor competitive programme. The good thing is that you do very easily get internships at the Court. However, Luxembourgish law firms do not specially like this master and won't hire you unless you have an interesting background. It is both a master 2 (French system) and an LL.M. Master 2 Contentieux européens and it's great! But you really should do the one in Luxembourg if you're interested in working at the ECJ later on. Luxembourgish law firms don't like if you complete all your degrees in Luxembourg, but they don't mind if a foreigner does his/her last year in Luxembourg. You should also consider the Luxembourgish bar, which is very useful if you want to work in Luxembourg. You will basically study all Luxembourgish law (14 subjects I think) from October until April and then you have to complete an internship in a Luxembourgish law firm for 2 years (with a few compulsory cases). At the end of that period you will have to take a few exams which are pretty difficult. You have to be good in French and have basic knowledge of German in order to make it.
