Cam/ LSE without a 1st
Hi there,Mon Nov 19, 2007 04:22 AM Am curious to hear from LLM students at Cambridge, LSE and UCL. I have a 1st in Eng Lit from a top UK uni, an MPhil from Oxford in a social sciences degree and a GDL (pass). I am now doing the BVC. I also have significant experience working in govt and legal NGOs. Do I have any chance of getting an offer from Cambridge or LSE despite my disappointing GDL result? Thanks, New Boy |

Should be perfectly doable.Tue Nov 20, 2007 04:42 PM If you're not offering a strong 2:1 LLB then the LSE would be looking for 1st+CPE, or similar 1st+MPhil+GDL+BVC should be fine. As always the key is distinguishing yourself from the pack -- admission ratio at the LSE is about 5:1 so you need to stand out from the rest. Cambridge could be tougher -- they really look for a 1st or very strong alternatives. The MPhil+experience may get you through, and certainly give it a go, but it'll likely be rockier than LSE. |

I think he only has a 1st in Literature, not for an LLB or the MPhil, which would probably be more relevant for legal studies. The real legal area is only passed, hence the worry.
