NYU@NUS 2008-09 AdmissioN Decision
I happened to have the opportunity to visit the NYU seminar held in New Delhi 2 days back. And what made it absolutley worth it was that I got to interact with Prof. Simon Chesterman ( the Director of the NYU@NUS program), who was kind enough to answer all possible queries raised by many prospective applicants and those admitted.Sun Jan 06, 2008 04:19 PM One thing is for sure that NYU@NUS is definitely bound to do well in the Asian market. (Though one of the pass out's even got a job in the UAE). So without getting into any more details what I have gathered from the seminar is that if you are admitted and want to work in the Asian legal market (which also happens to be the hottest place to be now) then NYU@NUS is the place to be. Though I know that when a program is new, there are alwast second thoughts about it, but in my opinion this program with NYU tag on it....will just do better with every passing year. Cheers. |

Same here. I checked the link and I got in. For those looking for comparative statistics, I'm a graduate of Florida State University Law School, top 20%, Law Review and Moot Court, and I practice as a Human Rights lawyer in Florida.

HiTue Jan 15, 2008 05:37 AM Has anyone (especially in Delhi) received their admission and scholarship decision as yet for the 2nd round of admissions? The link didn't work for me, so I assume that I haven't got in as yet. Has anyone received the Singapura Scholarship this year? Cheers Prashant |

NYU@NUS 2008-09 AdmissioN Decision
@KVC: Tue Jan 15, 2008 02:16 PM I wrote to the Univ on Dec 26th and received a mail from them on Jan 2nd, 2008, after their holidays finished, saying that they would be sending out decisions right until Jan 15, 2008 for the NYU@NUS course. They also said all applicants would be informed of a decision, whether it is positive or negative. In fact the Director of Admissions had also sent me a mail and told me that a decision would be conveyed to me by Mid-January. I guess it's a matter of another 2-3 days and then we all should know where we stand. In the meantime I suggest those who have not been admitted as yet should explore alternate plans in any case. I'm certainly doing that for the moment. @all: I'd like to know if anyone who has received admission has decided not to take up the the offer at NYU@NUS? Cheers Prashant |

@ All,Tue Jan 15, 2008 05:18 PM I also got offer with Dean's Award 20k. I got it through UPS on 10th January. I think they are now sending second round of admission letters. Date on my admission letter is 8th January. @ Prasbez I am from New Delhi. Most likely I am not going to accept the offer. And will wait for Harvard, Yale and Cambridge. |

NYU@NUS 2008-09 AdmissioN Decision
Hi AllSat Jan 19, 2008 03:23 PM Just wanted to let you all know that I didn't get admission to NYU@NUS. The rejection letter came today evening to my house. Surprisingly it's dated January 3, 2008 but it only reached me today. I guess my marks (54.5% from Faculty of law, Delhi University in 1997) were not up to the required standard despite almost 10 years of work experience. I suppose this implies that for NYU@NUS, work experience doesn't have that much importance as the marks do. The application process begins again for me. lol. I'll probably look at UK now instead of the US. All the best to all those who got their admission to NYU@NUS and to other places and to those who didn't get admission also. I'm off to party now. :))) Cheers Prashant |

NYU@NUS 2008-09 AdmissioN Decision
Hi,Sat Jan 19, 2008 03:56 PM I am a lawyer from India working as a Senior Associate at a leading corporate law firm. I got an offer from NYU@NUS along with a Dean's scholarship of US $ 35000/-. i am not sure how worth the program is? as I am already in a senior position and there are ample chances of becoming a partner in my firm in another three months time. I have also applied to some other top IVY league universities which may communicate the decision by March. I am confused whether I will get a scholarship in these IVY league or should I go for NUS@NYU. Regarding my profile Topper gold medallist from Kerala university with 59% Winner of several gold medals for law Seven years of work experience Represented India inthe XIth Manfred lachs moot court at Sydney 2002. Interned at World trade organisation at Geneva, Switzerland. Participated in the Hague Academy Lecture Series at the Hague , The Netherlands with a scholarship Completed Post graduate course in International Trade Law at Turin Italy conducted by ILO with a scholarship. Rank holder in B.Sc with 96%. I am confused! Should I accept the offer from NYU@NUS or should wait for offer from the other U S Schools. Please some one help. |

NYU@NUS 2008-09 AdmissioN Decision
Hi ShobhanSun Jan 20, 2008 07:06 AM Sent you a P.M on this. However my suggestion is take the NYU offer. Just pay the 500 $ deposit and book your place at least. It's not too much if you're already a Senior Associate, which means 500$ is not that much money to pay in order to avoid the risk of not getting a scholarship in the other Ivy league colleges. No point taking a huge loan to study when you already have a scholarship. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. lol. :)))) Of course even if you have to come back to India after your course, you can always pay off a loan easily especially at your level of experience. But still I'd think twice before giving up a scholarship which I already had in favour of uncertainty for the other institutes. Other advantage of NYU@NUS is that you get 2 degrees instead of one. In fact that was one of the main reasons why NYU@NUS was my first preference. Of course now I have to explore other possibilities since I didn't get admission. Regarding giving up the partnership track, that is a tough decision but you need to decide how important the LLM is compared to the partnership track and why exactly you want to do the LLM. To be frank, even if I was on a partnership track, I'd probably go for the LLM because of the international exposure and the in depth understanding of the subjects you'd study there. Besides you can always have an arrangement with your law firm that after your course you can come back to them at a partner level. A friend of mine did that in her law firm. She went off to study in US and then came back to India and joined back as a Partner in her firm. Now she's joined a foreign law firm in Singapore. Think about it and see where you want to go from here in your career and in your professional development. Cheers Prashant |
