Hello!

I received the following e-mail a few days ago:

"Thank you for submitting your LL.M. application to the Graduate Program at Harvard Law School. The Graduate Program Admissions staff is currently reviewing your file. We will make sure to contact you should we require additional documents."

...

"Occasionally, we may request additional materials pertaining to your application (for example, original foreign language versions of transcripts, if applicable; additional transcript(s) from school(s) you have listed on your CV but not on your application materials); if so, we will notify you via e-mail. Any materials that you submit at our request will not be considered 'late'."

Does it mean that my appication is basically complete or do they send a second mail confirming completeness?

Thanks

This means that your application has been "received" before the last date. Harvard had fixed December 1 as the last date; and November 15 as the preferred date for submission of all documents. They are reviewing your application and they would some more information / documents, they will e-mail you. The information / documents sent by you in response to their e-mail, even after it is post December 1, shall not be considered late.

You will receive a second e-mail confirming that your application is complete and has been sent to the admissions committee for final decision.

Here is a sample of e-mails I received from one of the schools which confirm that the application is complete :

"Thank you for your application to our LL.M. program for International Lawyers. Your file is now complete and has been forwarded to our admissions committee for a decision. Please allow approximately two to three weeks to complete this process. All decisions are communicated by an initial email letter followed by a hard copy letter that is mailed to the applicant. Please understand that we cannot inform anyone of admissions decisions over the phone."

We expect to be in contact with you soon. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.

I have received the same e-mail and since then I have been wondering about it.

In previous years, Harvard's e-mails were different and they sent another e-mail to confirm completeness. My guess is they will send us another e-mail to acknowlegde completeness. Sometimes, however, this may take weeks or even a couple of months.

Thank you for your replies. I think you are right. But I have another question: Assuming that I forgot to send a transcript or a part of it and Harvard requests it after December 1st. Will it be considered as late?

I guess there is no way to know. However, look at this answer provided by LLM_06 about two years ago concerning the same issue. I think it pretty much addresses your question. Hope it helps!

"I have been wondering about this. There are two possible answers. First, they can think that it is our responsibility to ensure that all documents arrive properly and timely. They are just trying to help letting you know that you application is incomplete, but was not their obligation to notify you. If they do not think that way (and I hope not), they will probably take into consideration the fact that one did not have time to complete the missing parts of the application in due time, since they were very slow in notifying the applicants. Therefore, if a document arrives just after the deadline, they will probably consider the date in which the application with the forms, personal statement, etc, arrived".

Although i sent my application three weeks ago, I've still not received any e-mail from Harvard.
Since my letter comes from France, it should have taken approximatively one week to arrive...
Anybody is in the same case, or should I be worried about it?

Thx

Do not worry! Remember that they are receiving a lot of packages these days. They should be writting to you soon to let you know if your application is complete or not. I got a confirmation e-mail like 3 weeks after the application was sent and that was back in early November when they're not too busy. In ny case, write to them! they'll answer your query timely (at least that was my case...)

Oh my god, I just received the first email but has not received the second one. Since the deadline has already passed, does it mean my application materials are not complete?

Thanks much!

Hi Allison!

I think you shouldnīt be worried. I didnīt receive the completion e-mail either. According to older threads it can take week or even months until the e-mail of completion will be send. Has anybody received a second e-mail yet?

On checking my LSAC account I found that Harvard had requested for a report on November 28 but till date LSAC has not sent the report. It means the file will be compelted only when Harvard receives LSAC report.

In some cases I have seen that LSAC has taken months to sent its report which is quite disturbing.

Any one of us having similar disturbing experience with LSAC ?

I had a similar situation with LSAC. I wrote to them and they reply the following:

"Thank you for contacting the LL.M. Credential Assembly Service.

I have confirmed that Harvard retrieved your report electronically on the same date that it was requested (Nov 5). Harvard has chosen to suppress the printing & mailing of paper reports by LSAC. At present, this option prevents our system from displaying the report date, but we are working to change that. In any event, you may be assured that Harvard has your report.

If you need anything additional, please contact us at LLMinfo@LSAC.org".

I hope this information helps you.

I just received an e-mail from Harvard indicating that my application is complete. This is the second e-mail I receive from Harvard. The first one stated that the Office received and was reviewing my file. This one stated that the Office reviewed the file and decided that it is complete.
Good Luck to everybody and Merry Xmas!

I submitted my application on the first week of November and I still haven't received the second e-mail from Harvard. I hope there isn't any problem with my application.

Does Harvard admit students on a rolling basis? Have they begun admitting already?

I submitted my application on the 13th of November. I am not aware whether Harvard sends e-mails indicating that materials are misssing or not. What I've heard though is that the "complete application notification" might arrive with considerable delay given the fact that they receive 1500-2000 applications each year. In any case, what I've learned from my brief experience with applications is that if you're sure that you've sent everything that was on the checklist, then there is no reason to worry. Otherwise, we will all go nuts until the end of March that is when the decisions are out. Trust me, you don't have to worry. If you've double checked what you've put into the envelope that you mailed, then there is no reason to worry. Harvard will notify you soon or later.

Harvard will contact should anything be missing. They e-mailed me last week inquiring whether I would send them a recommendation letter. So, I'm certain they will contact you if anything's missing; don't worry.

And yes...this waiting period shall be long, cold and lonely...

I received a second email 3 days ago (5 January) confirming that my application was complete, having received the first email back on 28 November.

I imagine it is purely random who gets notified first and I also doubt it has anything whatsoever to do with your chances of being admitted.

The wait is a real pain though isnt it?

I doubt that the fact that they have informed us that our applications are complete has anything to do with whether or not they perceive us to be better/stronger candidates. The review by the Admissions commitee is a separate process from an "application complete" confirmation.

the wait IS a killer.....
