NYU Admission Decisions ?
A friend of mine who recently studied at NYU in NYC told that almost all applicants received notices in around March, so perhaps we would have to wait for a while as well.

Congrats to all of you who have been accepted! Thu Jan 17, 2008 07:53 AM Have all of you chosen NYU@NUS as first priority or are they also sending out admissions to people who applied for NYU in NY City as first and NYU@NUS as second choice? |

NYU Admission Decisions ?
Hello,Sun Jan 27, 2008 04:29 PM A friend of mine and i have received acceptance letters from NYU tax LLM in NYC on the 22nd of January. His application was completed in October and mine was completed two weeks before i received the letter. This is sort of ridiculous, but its been 15 weeks since my application for Florida was completed, and i go there!! The process is supposed to take 4-6 weeks...if anyone has heard back from Florida, let me know! Has anyone else heard back from NYU tax? |

NYU Admission Decisions ?
Mon Jan 28, 2008 07:16 PM Hello, Hey Ra. Do you mind telling me what your stats were? I'm a 3L at FSU, and I've applied for the International Legal Studies LLM program at NYU. However, I haven't received any type of notification or correspondence from NYU since I went complete back in November. I'm in the top 15% of my class and an editor on a journal. I've got a decent amount of legal experience for a law student, and some good pre-lawschool real world experience. I know tax and international law are two different areas but I have to figure that the admissions criteria is probably the same for domestic students who go to similarly ranked schools. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks. |

NYU Admission Decisions ?
Tue Jan 29, 2008 10:39 PM Hello, Jballer, my stats are: top 20%, journal, summer clerk for a FL circuit judge, research assistant, master in economics, no non-law work experience. But i'm not sure if that comparison will help you much because i'm sure the only reason why they took me was because i never got anything lower than a B+ in the 6 tax law courses i took (with other LLM students) at a school consistently ranked #2 for its tax LLM. In fact, i'm going to pay that seat deposit ASAP in case they made a mistake. [Edited 29 Jan 2008 by sr1] |

Thu Jan 31, 2008 10:18 AM Anyone know how difficult it is to get into NYU's Trade Regulation LL.M program? IIRC, the Admission Office stated during NYU's online information session that approx. 30-35 students are accepted each year for this program. |

Academic grades
Hi, everyone.Thu Jan 31, 2008 02:04 PM I would like to know, from those ones admitted to NYU, what are your academic grades? Cuz I want to apply to NYU (Fall - 2009) but my grades are like B (I'm brazilian and grades here are different from the US) and I'd like to know if I'll have to increase my grades or a B student is applicable to NYU. Thank you for your help. xoxo |

I've heard it's hard, because an NYU LLM won't remove the taint of your tier 2 (Florida) JD. I'm in a very similar boat as you (without the masters though) and I'm wondering if I'm just wasting more money on a degree which won't get me a good job. [Edited 12 Feb 2008 by baffronz] |

Wed Feb 13, 2008 02:48 PM Don't be too impressed with your "luck." Most NYU LLM ppl are like you. Do you expect to get a biglaw job out of this? I'm in a very similar boat as you (without the masters though) and I'm wondering if I'm just wasting more money on a degree which won't get me a good job. From my friends experiences in the Florida LLM (I don’t know anyone at NYU), I will agree with you and say that regardless of where you go for your LLM, you carry a “taint” with you if you went to a lower tiered school. I’ve known about 12 Florida LLM’s, and all but two of them went to tier 1 schools. One went to a tier 2 school, and another went to a tier 3 school. Both of them found jobs in firms that are composed of less than 25 lawyers, but the firms are well known (within FL at least) boutique estate tax firms in South Florida. They tried to find mid-large sized firms, but were unable to get interviews at the large firms. I think that if you want to practice tax, you should go to the best LLM you can get into, otherwise your only crutch is a tier 2 JD, and no tax firm is going to take you seriously. My remaining friends all went to biglaw firms (including 3 Florida JD’s), primarily in the South and D.C. To answer your question, before even beginning the program, NYU has already helped me get 2 interviews with big law firms with offices in Miami, but I’m not in the same position as you. Florida is a tier 1 school, even after the temporary 6 spot drop caused by a temporary bulge in students that resulted from a restructuring of incoming classes (www.law.ufl.edu/deansmessages/pdf/usnews_%20rankin…). good luck in your decision, and congrats on NYU [Edited 13 Feb 2008 by sr1] |

has anyone who did not also apply für NYU@NUS received an admission decision for NYU yet? I am getting little nervous since the deadline to accept admission to CLS is getting closer and closer.

So you got interviews at firms, as a 3L, that had rejected you prior to your getting into NYU? That's very interesting and seems to prove NYU's value. P.S. I got to a school like yours (when I say tier 2 I mean real tier 2, like everything outside T14 + the few other national schools like Vandy or USC.) My concern is that if I go to NYU, and don't get a good job, it will be a huge waste of money. NY is expensive, not to mention the lost opportunity cost. I'm wondering if I should just take a job at a small firm now and forget about starting off at a high paying firm. |
