CaliforniaLawyer Joined: 01 Nov 2007 Posts: 6	Working in the USA After LLM Fri Dec 07, 2007 01:35 AM Hello Everyone- I have been asked by attorneys from some civil law countries how they can become attorneys in the US. Receiving a US LLM and taking a US bar exam are obvious steps. However, my question for foreign lawyers now working in the US is, "How did you find employment in the US." My law firm has about 8 foreign attorneys, i.e. attorneys without a US JD. I've spoken to two so far. One received her first job with a US law firm when her husband (who had a JD from a top US law school) received an job offer from the firm. The other had worked at an international firm in London and interviewed in the US during the dotcom boom when firms were desparate for transactional attorneys. Both had married US citizens and therefore were able to easily receive green cards. As I speak with more attorneys, I will post their responses. In the meantime, I would be very interested to hear how foreign attorneys now working in the US managed to become employed with US law firms. Thank you.
