I just received an e-mail from Chicago School of Law indicating the following "We received all of the necessary documents, and your application file is complete. Your file will be submitted to the Graduate Studies Committee for evaluation."
Does anyone happen to know whether such a notification means that my application will be submitted to the Committee NOW? Or is it sth they always say when they send the complete application notification? In this case "will be submitted" means NOW or in some time in the future?

It took them 9 days actually. Not 9 business days, but 9 (plain) days. According to the description of the application process in their website, they say that they might need several weeks for notification. So, I suppose you don't have to worry, since a week seems to be a reasonable delay. When you receive their notification please let me know if they say that your application will be submitted to the Committe for evaluation as well.

Has anyone else received an acknowledgment from Chicago with regard to their application? Do they say that the application will be submitted to the Committee for evaluation as well?

Yes, I received at the beginning of November the email stating that "the application will be submitted to the Committe".

I've been told that they start giving responses by mid-January.

Cheers

So, I guess that the phrase "your application will be submitted to the committee for evaluation" does not indicate that it will be submitted a few days after you receive the notification, but perhaps that it is ready to be submitted to the Committee, when the latter will begin to review the files. Last year I saw in a Chicago thread here that the first students were notified of their admission the 26th and the 27th of January. Thus, I guess we should not expect anything to come earlier than this. I submitted by application on the 5th of December and received a notification about a week afterwards so my file will be probably reviewed later than those who were submitted in November.

Jaguar, they say they might need several weeks to send the confirmation. A quick look at last year's threads will prove you that the confirmation might arrive even in February.

I'm impatient! I didn't receive a notification saying that they got my material. Until some notification comes I will be stressed. It is the first time that you people are applying to UChicago?

I was also troubled whether Chicago had or not received my materials. So, I sent the Law School an e-mail some 15 days after the materials were supposed to have arrived there, and got a very quick reply stating they had my materials and my application was complete.

There is one professor of mine that will send my last recommendation letter today. Probably this is why they didn't send me anything. I will wait until next week to send them an email for confirmation. Thanks for the tip anyway. Where are you people from? I'm from Brazil.

Then, jaguar, you have nothing to worry about. The reason, why they didn't send you anything was that they were expecting this letter. It is evident. Chicago has the reputation of replying promptly within the scope of the admission process, so I guess that you would be notified in case your file was complete and they didn't expect any supplemental materials. I am from Greece. I wish you good luck!

I am aware Dean Badger is currently reviewing the applications. Decisions are made on a rolling basis so the first decisions should be expected by late January or early February. You will never regret accepting an offer from Chicago. Best of lucks!

That's some very useful information Rej! I assume that you're a LL.M. student at Chicago the present academic year, right?

Finally, they send me today the confirmation e-mail saying that my application is complete. Good look for us all. I hope to see all of you there in September.
And rej, I envy you! Who is the professor that is supervising your JSD thesis and what is the subject of your research?

I received the “complete confirmation” e-mail on Dec 10, but no further news since then…

Jaguar, are you from Brazil?

Richard Posner and I am focusing on how certain Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (Posner's, Eaesterbrooks', and Wood's court) would have been differently resolved if applying a non Law & Economics criteria and how that would have impacted in other areas...

Oh.. it is really hard... For the last 3 years I have been trying to find at least one empiric conclusion or something and I have nothing... I would define myself as a bon vivant whose only real concern is reading, studing and chicks... So, not much of a life... American by election but was born in Africa.
