Congrats on that Prash:)Thu May 15, 2008 01:30 PM I will be sending out the acceptance form soon too. Have you researched whether the prices for accomodation suggested by KCL are cheaper or more expensive than generally renting in that central area of London? I will ask bout that today, when I receive a call from them. but wondered anyway if someone has already found out about it. LJ |

Great LJ. Hope to see you there. I've already applied for the accommodation at KCL residences. I don't plan to stay in private accommodation. Thu May 15, 2008 02:41 PM I think the prices of KCL are reasonable considering the location of their residences. I spoke to some friends who studied in London and one who is doing his PHD in London. Their advice was to stay in the KCL residences and preferably close to the Strand campus. If you rent privately, you'll be taking care of the electricity, heating, etc and your headache will increase according to my friends in London. In addition staying close to the Strand campus is an advantage especially since you're in the heart of the city. You might find cheaper residences away from the main Strand campus and maybe in Zone 3-4 but the travel cost and time taken to travel to the campus may neutralize the cheaper rent. You'll also have all the other headaches of private accommodation. I did do some research on the prices and by and large I found that the KCL residences were probably cheaper considering all aspects. |

I´m in!Thu May 15, 2008 03:57 PM Today I reciedved the TOEFL score and I baaaarely made the rather harsh requirement of 109. I am so happy. Hope to see you all in September. To comment on the housing issue above, I believe that the pricing is fair considering the location. You will probably not find anything better if subletting. // Johan |

Hi JohanThu May 15, 2008 04:17 PM Welcome. :) Will see you at KCL in September. What's your first preference for the accommodation? I've chosen Stamford Street Apartments. Hopefully will get that as it's the closest to the campus. Otherwise my 2nd choice is Wolfson House. Friend of mine advised me against opting for Great Dover Street Apartments as my 1st or 2nd preference. He said the location wasn't that great. |

Prashbez.Thu May 15, 2008 05:41 PM Either Stamford or Gr. Dover St. - What was wrong with the location of Gr. Dover? At first I was thinking about the Intercollegiate Halls but all of them were catered and that was to expensive for me to be honest (£1000/month). Do you know when the lectures start? |

Well my friend said that the Dover Street ones weren't that close to the Strand campus and the surrounding area wasn't that nice. Apparently it's more desolate at the Dover Street Apartments. In fact he got an apartment next to the Dover Street Apartments and he changed to a better location. Thu May 15, 2008 06:28 PM The Intercollegiate Halls are more expensive for sure. 1000 pounds is really expensive but are you sure it's that much? I thought they were much cheaper. Check out the prices in the My Digs brochure. Lectures start on 22nd September, 2008. But my email says that I have to be in London by September 15, 2008. In fact I'm planning to be in London around 9th September because there's an International student orientation between 10th and 12th September. I'm still waiting for the hard copy unconditional offer to reach me. There's a group for the KCL 2008-2009 LLM students on www.lawyrs.net. Come and join the group. :) I've put some links on that group, so you'll get a feedback on the accommodation. |

Cheers everyone,Mon Jun 09, 2008 11:46 AM With my unconditional offer I tried to apply for the accomodation, though the server would reject me. Further I read the conditions of eligibility and as I fould out I am not eligible since I applied and got accepted for part-time study. Does anyone know if this is how it works? no full-time -no accomodation supporting?:)) Thanks LJ |

I am going to KCL:)
HI everybody,Sat Jun 14, 2008 08:26 PM I would like to apply one day to KCL, but do not know how realistic that is, as one takes into consideration the large volumes of applications KCL must receive. That is why it would help me a lot to hear from you who have either studied there or just recently been admitted there, what are your credentials, why do you think you were admitted? In my country they have a grading system of 0-5, (5 is top grade), so on that scale what should one's GPA at least be to become accepted? And for the LLM degrees, im especially interested in the competition law LLM, do one has to have already relevant work experience, or is it sufficient that one has completed the master and to apply directly after that? This fall I will start my one year master and have just now completed my bachelor's degree. I wonder if I can compensate my average grades that I had during my bachelor studies with exceptional grades during my master? Im taking my master's degree in another country, but i guess KCL requires me still to send my bachelor grades as well? Im very grateful for any answers, please help me on this one:). |

And I must still add that I'm seeking to apply for the academic year 2009-2010, so would it be a good timing if I submitted my application in January to have some relevant grades from my master's degree included in the application? Or is it even sensible for me to apply at this stage of my studies? Should I work more on my credentials, eg. getting relevant work experience and consequently not applying before for the academic year 2010-2011? Sat Jun 14, 2008 08:35 PM Thank you so much for any advice you might have regarding KCL competition law LLM or any other reputable competition LLM!! |
