Hi,

I am also a Fulbrighter for 2008-2009. I am waiting for the admission from an American law school chosen by the I.I.E. I would know about my admission normally in March or April. I will pursue an LLM in Banking, Corporate and Finance Law as i currently work as a legal adviser in these fields. I put my preference for BU and Fordham, but i ignore which universities the I.I.E has submitted my Appl. In any way, the official granting is conditioned by the admission.

Regards,

I am really happy to find a person with the same conditions of mine. We can help each other. I am from Afghanistan. The same I am waiting for my admission in a US Law school. I prefere to study international corporate law or international business law. I am working with one of the NGOs assisting the parliament commissions now. Before, I have worked with an NGO working to eradicate corruption. I finished my undergraduate in 2006, so I didn't have much time to get experience. One of my briliant experiences was the participation in Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competions in US in 2006, when I had one year to finish my undergraduate classes. Anyway, one criteria is the TOEFL for international students, I have 610 PBT and 4 on TWE, how about you?
Lets share our ideas

I applied in Afghanistan. IIE is placing me in a law school. According the last years fact sheets of the fulbrighters, they make placements usually in good schools.
Good Luck

I applied in May, it took a long procedure of selection. There were 900 applicants from Afghanistan and only 30 were selected. 22 masters and 8 undergraute. I am the only person who is going to study law.

I was also hoping to apply for a scholarship, although my situation is the reverse as I already have my admissions letter but no scholarship!
So is it too late to apply for a scholarship for the year 2008-9?

I think it is late, because it takes one year to pass all the procedures. But you can check their site. foreign.fulbrightonline.org
It has very useful information.

Hi Shayan,

We are quite in the same situation: i was selected as the first of 4 Lao Fulbrighters selected from around 1,000 candidates around my country, Laos (small indochinese country located within China, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar). I got my iBT TOEFL of 102 (around 610 in PBT TOEFL). I am also the only one who do the LLM.

Cheers,

Hi Everyone,

My name is J.Romero and I've also been awarded with a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year in order to pursue an LL.M in the U.S. Regarding myself, I am currently working as a senior corporate attorney at Dominican Republic's widest law firm, which also represents most U.S. big Law firms troughout the Caribbean area. My daily practice has to do with business and international trade law, corporate Law, to deal with local and offshore entities regulations, performance of due diligences, to conduct merges and acquisitions process, to deal with foreign investors and provide them with legal opinions regarding the most feasible corporate structure for their intended business, to draft Private and Governmental Contracts whether in Spanish, English or French, the elaboration of legal opinions regarding local Taxation, to work in the process of offering notes at local and foreign Stock Markets, with regulations and laws concerning securities, to draft commodities, promissory notes, to conduct and promote alternate conflict resolutions and amicable settlements, to work with Real Estate Law in the widest tourist intended projects, to draft legal opinions and produce due diligences on Environmental Law, to deal with Dr-Cafta issues, Law 173, among others. I am a former DR's diplomat, and an ex general counsel for both, a Telecommunications company and an Electricity Generation Company. I am also an International Private Law professor.

On the academics, my main interest resides in American Business and Taxation Law and up today, just like you guys, I am still awating for a response from LASPAU (partner entity of IIE for Latin American Fulbright Scholars) in order to know to which school I am finally gonna land at. Although my preferences standed towards U.S top five law schools, I was only allowed to pick Georgetown, UPenn, Duke and possibly Chicago.

Finally, Did u all receive confirmation of your scholarship form the Fulbright Board?

I look forward to hearing from you soon, my email is jmromerog@hotmail.com

I have also been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship (contingent upon acceptance into any accredited U.S university). I seek to specialize in Int.Law. I have applied for NYU, Columbia and will be applying to Michigan and Georgetown this week.

I have also received a scholarship for Oxford, so I'm not completely sure what to do, but I do not despair:)

Nice meeting other fulbright candidates for this year. I am from Costa Rica. I want to persue a LLM in Tecnology Law and Private Information. I did not have to apply myself the IIE, according to what I have been told actually applies for you to 4 different Law Schools (they choose) and afterwards you know the results.... Does it work the same way for you????

one quick question, if you applied through the IIE, does it mean you have to study in the US? or we could just pick up other universities around the world?

Hello to all
IIE provides scholarships to both international students to study in US and to US students to study abroad.
IIE works on placement and they will tell us maybe in March or April. I searched the IIE and fulbright web sites, the fact sheets show that most of the fulbrighters are were placed at the top law shools in the last periods. You can check it too. foreign.fulbrightonline.org/current_grantees.html

For the above question,

You could surf at www.eastchance.com, a very good website for scholarship hunters. However, i should point out that it is too late to apply for any scholarship for academic year 2008-2009.

Good luck,

To the fulbrighters
Does anyone of you know if IIE applies to the universities on our behalf before the TOEFL score reaches IIE? Or IIE waits until the TOEFL score comes, in this case we are not eligible for the early review, right?

Shayan,

I was told that IIE only sends the application to the universities when all your papers are complete (at least that happened in my case).

I have been told that the IIE will send my application to Yale, Harvard, GW and American University. I am also applying to Columbia, NYU and Michigan. What about you guys???

Hi Shayan,

I am Swiss national and have also been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship. Where exactly did you come across those fact sheets regarding placement of current/past Fulbrighters?

Cheers,
