Dear All:
I have received AD from Fordham law and Washington University in St.Louis.
It's a dilemma for me to choose an ideal one for me:
1.WUSTL ranks 19 vs Fordham ranks 25
2.WUSTL ranks 12 comprehensively nationwide.
3. My friends in the U.S. tell me that St.Louis is a city with one of the highest crime rate and the city is dirty; Fordham is in NY, the city is nice and may provide many job opportunities.

What do you think? Bless everyone good luck in 2008!!!

And I also received AD from Indiana-bloomington, SMU and McGeorge School of Law with 50% scholarship.

which one will you choose, wait for your suggestions!
Thank you!!!: )

The location and campus of Fordham and St Louis are very good. I have visited both the places; WUSL campus is magnificient and the school is virtually considered as Harvard of the South.

However, out of all the schools you have received 50% scholarship, SMU is the best. Dallas is a great place to live and several large law firms are located there.

IF you are looking ONLY from the angle of living place, possibly Indiana may be the best out of all the places you have mentioned.

Left to myself, out of all the schools you mentioned, WUSL is the best choice if one can afford financially. I visited this school and may join if they offer adequate funding. Another good school is Vanderbilt.

Thank you very much for your detail explanation.
But isn't Fordham a good law school? It is in New York and may be convenient for Bar exam and future jobs, plus its rank is not bad.

I think that the difference between 20 and 30 in the US ranking is marginal on the US job market, at least that's what I understood from the opinions here on the forum on this topic. Maybe you could contact some alumni of these schools for questions about the job market, once admitted most schools provide you with some addresses.

If I were you, I would look at what's more valued in your home country. In my home country for example, quite some partners at important law firms (Cleary, e.g.) have an LL.M. from Fordham, so I was quite surprised to see them not in the Top 15 of the US Rankings. Then again, bear in mind that these rankings only take into account J.D. programs IIRC, not LL.M. programs.

To all who have been admitted for LLM in BCFL at Fordham,

Could you tell what would make you admitted (TOEFL, GPA, experience, recommendations)?

Thanks for your answer,

It's not an easy question, I could only give you a sequence which indicates the importance of the factors you mentioned. but that only implies my admission, I am not sure about others and the school's own decision standard, I hope it would be useful for you.
The sequence in my eyes would be: TOEFL, personal experience, recommendations, GPA

I think the main driver to get admitted is the previous academic and professional experience in related matters.

I would vote for Fordharm if you want to do something with your degree in the US. First, it is known in NYC, where most of the jobs are. Second, it is considered to be quite good in corporate issues. I know some JDs from Fordham (I know it is considerably different from the LL.Ms), but they are all quite confident about their place on the market. Certainly, it will be hard to compete with the guys from the top 10, but if you get good credentials, who knows..
About Washington Univ of St. Louise...they do have a very nice campus (been there an exchange student myself )..and they are highly regarded in the South...but about your job perspectives over there...I really wonder.
So, briefly: Fordham campus Vs Washington University of St. Louise, WUSL wins, NYC Vs St. Louise....will not be even comparing....though you can get an experience of real America-;)) Quality of education-would dare to say..quite even, WUSL could be in some aspects better, but Fordham will win in the corporate matters. Job Perspectives- Fordham gets it.
Good luck!

Yes, I believe that a nice CV does matter much.
My GPA is not satisfactory, however, I got high TOEFL, nice PS and CV.
I do think you have large chance to make up for ordinary grades: ) Good luck to you!

About job hunting, I really don't think it makes big difference. Both are difficult to get a job. I don't think Fordham has an edge on this perspective. WashU is well-known nationwide, all NY law firms know this law school. Your chance of getting a job in the US largely depends on where you are from, how the markets are, and what your previous experiences are. So it should come down to the location, expenses, and other consideration to make your final decision.

Fordham hands down if you are planning on work in the NY metro area.

Year after year Fordham places its grads in some of the best of BigLaw beating NYU in terms of salary and placement and coming close to Columbia. This is only going increase exponentially in the future giving greater value and power to the degree. I went to Columbia and work with several Fordham attorneys and they are up there with the best of our lot. We are very litigation oriented and perhaps their extensive clinic work helped them.
