mschuster43 -- Just curious if you applied to UCL or LSE, and whether you were accepted. I'm a US law student as well, and was accepted into both, but still waiting on Cambridge. If yes, any idea which you are planning on attending???

I'm in a similar position as you-- better law school (Top 100), a bit lower ranking, but undergraduate grades were not so hot...

JR-
Outside of the US, I only applied to Oxford and Cambridge. At present, I haven't received an acceptance/rejection from either.
If you don't mind my asking - why are you considering the English schools? I'm looking at the LLM/BCl as a means to enter academia at some point in the future.

For a couple reasons-- my primary interest is in Int'l Banking & Finance and I'd ultimately like to do legal work relating to offshore banking, private placements, hedge funds, etc. Most of the firms that specialize in this area are London-based. And, in order to practice in the offshore banking islands (Cayman, Jersey, etc.), you have to have a Commonwealth degree and three yrs practice experience. Plus, like you, I ultimately would like to become a professor of law-- however, I always thought that would be a perfect "second" career. Lastly, I know a couple people who live over in London and absolutely love it-- so, it'll be nice to have some friends across the pond and try something new/different.

While we're all still waiting (patiently, or in my case painfully) I was wondering if people had any idea when they usually announce cambridge trust awards? I've seen some other threads on this site that mention it in around June, but I'm interested to know. Specifically, I wonder if we need to accept the offer before we're considered or if we are notified before the acceptance date?

Is there any hope of getting an answer before March 15th? When is this torture going to finish?

I know its painful, but I'd try and forget about it if possible. I'm trying to put it to the back of my mind!

Best of Luck.

PS - Anyone who has news, can you please post it as soon as you get it?

Okay I've been reading the posts and replies on this forum with interest for a while now and, although I know this is digressing slightly from the topic, I will like to know what you guys think my chances are of getting into Oxford (BCL)/ LSE (LLM).

I graduated last year from the University of Reading with a high 2.1. My final year results were 4As, a B and a C, however my 1st and 2nd year results are nothing to write home about due to documented extenuating circumstances (Else, I might have gotten a first!!! ;-). I havent got a lot of UK legal experience but I have done a couple of legal internships in Africa and volunteer work. I already have an unconditional offer from UCL (and this was before I even got my 2.1) which I have deferred. I am currently working as a researcher for a financial consultant in the City.

I really really want to go to Oxford and although my referees are confident of my chances, I wanted to find out from you guys so I would really appreciate your honest opinion as I am tearing my hair out with worry at the moment!!!

P.S - I have recently been advised by my uni that I ranked 43 out of 300 in my year. Is this information that might aid my application or will it hinder it?

Hi. I see you that you have another post on this topic in another stream. I was hoping that people could keep this thread just for cambridge applicants who are waiting for responses please! I'm sure someone will be able to address your questions on the other post. Thanks!

Am sorry if this sinks your boat mate, but I would have to say that it would be best for you to not harbour any realistic hopes with regard to getting into the BCL...I know for a fact that even an Oxford undergraduate ranked 43 out of 280 would not even have a sniff of a chance of getting a place. I would say you would at least need to come within the top 5 out of 300 in your year at Reading, coupled with fantastic work experience and related extra-curriculars (mooting at a national or international level, or publication). Indeed that is quite the standard profile of the BCL student - top 5 of Uni at a very good/exceptional Uni with plenty of relevant work experience (mini pupillages, vac schemes, even full time employment) and extracurricular activities

I'm curiour. Why are you so set on Oxford? LSE and UCL are fantastic places to study? What about Cambridge? It has a great LLM, as good as Oxford as far as I'm concerned. Also, I think the BCL is for a certain type of person (not necessarily the best either) and if you're not that person (and I'm not saying that you're not), then don't sweat it!!

Curious: What would be the distinction between a Cantab type of student and an Oxon type?

Back to the question in the topic...

Has anyone received an offer from Cambrigde, or at least any information? I know that they gave themselves deadline till 15 April to make all the decisions, however some of my friends who applied in past years got their offers/rejections in February-March...

Hi guys,

I haven't had a response yet but my self-services page notes that I have outstanding documents to send, namely, three copies of the self-services pages with photos attached. This obviously wasn't part of the initial application requirements so I am finding it very strange, not least because I am quite sure they can access my self-services page themselves! Did you guys send photos with your applications originally? Is anybody else being asked to send outstanding documents on the self-services page?!

Thanks.

Have you applied online or by post?
I've applied by mail and, as far as I remeber, one of the requirements was to send them 3 copies of application form with photos attached to each one of them, so I assume it's a normal procedure.

Hi colleagues,
I submitted my application online and then sent the cover sheet –among other documents- by postal mail (3 copies as far as I remember with my photo included in all of them).

Anyways, I have another doubt, in the section “Documents you need to send us”, it still says: “INCLUDE ALL COPY DOCUMENTS”, does that appear to you as well? I am quite sure I had mailed them already…

BTW, I heard no decisions are going to be made until April 14th (+/-), is that correct?

Thanks and good luck!

I applied online and after I submitted the application I printed out the cover sheet and sent in 3 copies of it (with photo) plus 3 copies of all hard copy documents (from memory transcripts and references) as per the instructions. My self-service page, under "The documents you need to send us", says, "You do not need to send us any documents"...

LouiseStudent and Brett can you please tell us

(a) where you’re applying from?
(b) has your CamSis page been updated or did you receive the offer by e-mail or letter?

The reason I ask the first question is that judging by comments posted on this site last year the first people to hear were from outside Europe?

Thanks.

I just got my offer today by email as well. I am based in England, and CamSis has not been updated.
