"don't even bother considering QMUL, just not in the same league"Fri May 02, 2008 09:45 PM WHEN I READ THIS I WAS REALLY SHOCKED. WILL YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN THE REASONS; ACTUALLY I WAS CONSIDERING ACCEPTING QMUL'S OFFER (LLM OFFER). |

There are many reasons for my statement. Here are the chief reasons: Sat May 03, 2008 10:59 AM 1. QMUL is no where to be found in the ranking tables; 2. QMUL neither has the comparable reputation nor tradition for legal education as other UoL colleges. 3. QMUL cannot boast famous alumnus. 4. That may be due to the fact that it does not attract creme de la creme. The entry standard is 387. 5. QMUL is located in East London, that sums it up nicely. So I'm rather surprised that you were shocked. I thought it was self-evident and the whole world knew. Don't get me wrong. There is nothing demeaning about QMUL. I'm sure many alumni come out and have successful careers. Institutions only play a part in that, the rest is your own ability. |

Is anybody here familiar with the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights (formerly UCIHL/CUDIH)? If I were to specialize in IHL, international criminal law, and human rights, would I be better off going to the Geneva Academy or to UCL (LL.M. in Public International Law), particularly if my goal were to work at the International Criminal Court or a similar international tribunal? I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

Hi there,Wed May 07, 2008 07:47 AM I was accepted at the Academy and am waiting on the scholarship answer. But frankly there is not much information out there. THey are relatively new and I have not seen them in the rankings. THe chief attraction is that they are in Geneva and have contacts. I am a lawyer in the refugee law area and so for me their focus is ideal, however foryour area I would think twice. But if you do find out any information on their reputation, please pass it on. I don't know any of the graduates personally, I chatted with two of them briefly over the internet, and they were happy with the program itself, but as for question "was it worth it", both said they are trying to figure it out now. So, not very encouraging. But at least on paper the program looks pretty amazing. Tanya P.S. I hope it's not a general indicator, but the whole application process was characterized by ongoing delays on the part of the Academy. But maybe I am just bitter because I just can't wait any longer for the scholarship decision ;) |

Congrats pixie! I also plan to follow the PIL specialization. I did not, however, apply for that scholarship.

Are any of you familiar with the housing application process? I submitted my application via fax and email around the end of April, and sent a hard copy by mail (which should have been received after 3 weeks). When can we expect the results thereof?

I have recently contacted with UCL as to Deferal Process and they told me only sending an e-mail including the expression of your deferal requisition and your existing offer, which must be accepted, via fax would be enough . by the way anybody knows that how many weeks i have to attend for Pre-Sessional in the event of holding 6.5 from ielts?Tue May 27, 2008 02:25 PM many thanks [Edited 27 May 2008 by olgun1903] |

OK, I am getting confused by all the abbreviations. This is a question for those planning to attend the ADH - Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights: when exactly does the program starts and ends? Has anybody received a formal schedule so to speak? I am not sure for which dates to look for accommodations - from the beginning of September, from the middle... and till what date - till end of may, end of June, October? Any advice is welcome and if anybody has found a decent apartment to share, write back!Sun Jun 22, 2008 05:04 PM Tanya |

hi!Fri Jun 27, 2008 11:45 AM i have accepted a conditional offer from ucl. I have to score 7.5. at ielts but unfortunately i had 7. So probably i will go for the pre-sessional courses. Is there anyone else having the same problem?? Of course i will retake ielts but it is hard to achieve 7.5. So does anyone have any idea about how difficult is to achieve 75% at pre-sessional courses? Tnx!! |

hi, even I am having same problem. I scored 7 bands in IELTS and require 7.5 bands for UCL. So i am so much confused regarding the same. I am thinking to re appear for IELTS again and try. ALso i have requested for the offer letter for Pre sessional classes. they have given me 5 weeks classes. So even i am thinking that it would be difficult to get 75% over there. I dont know what to do??Sat Jun 28, 2008 05:35 AM |

hi.. I think the best we can do is just to retake ielts in case...it is always a matter of luck...Presessional courses seems to me the last solution, as of course it is really streesful to go there and to be obliged to pass 75%,...By the way, they have also offered me a 5 week place..Sat Jun 28, 2008 01:22 PM So good luck to all of us... |

Does anyone have any info on accommodation (beyond the info on the Accommodation Booklet and that posted on UCLs web site)? Sun Jun 29, 2008 09:01 PM I recently did the “virtual tour” on the Intercollegiate Halls (www.london.ac.uk/810.html) and they look awful (to say the least)! Even though I chose the Student Houses as my first choice, I'm starting to get worried over the fact that I might be spending nearly 7000 GBP on accommodation that is not on par with private accommodation. Any comments? cheers, v. |

even i got a 7.0 in ielts...all univerisities except ucl accepts this score...i spoke to the faculty of law today at ucl..they said the test could be re-taken anytime b4 september...Tue Jul 01, 2008 01:58 PM ive already given the ielts exam twice and i got 7.0 both times...ucl isnt considering it and it doesnt even accept an ielts waiver letter... so too bad! i was also a little mislead when i received a postcard from ucl saying "congratuations for your success, we look forward to welcoming you in september"...i found out today that it was just a letter acknoledging that i accepted their offer... so has anyone met the coniditions of their offer letter and have got an official admission letter? i have an upper second class and my offer letter mentioned a first class i.e. 60% i have no idea wats gonna happen...keeping my fingers crossed :) |

We can write lots of posts here with the questions "Why don't they just accept my 7.0 score on IELTS" and nothing will happend. Wed Jul 02, 2008 10:36 AM I am surprised that UCL Admissions has prolonged deadline for meeting English Language Requirements. On the UCL LLM official site it is mentioned that you have to meet your language requirements by 30 June 2008 (see Section "Language Requirements"). So I am surprised that in fact they allow students to make it by September. As for me, after some considerations, I will take pre-sessional courses. Hope to see you all in September! |
