Hi everybody

I’m really confused; I have unconditional offers to study international commercial (business) law at the universities of Durham, Manchester, Nottingham, but since I’ve being visiting this discussion board I do have the impression that only Oxbridge and the universities of London counts???!!!! I applied for LSE and I will apply for UCL, KCL very soon. I’m really worried about money, I do prefer London but studying there seems to be very expensive!!!

Also I need to know if I can apply for scholarship after receiving offers!!!!

So what do you think? I do need your opinions…..

Yes, I think that "golden triangle" schools and "G5" universities add "namebrand" and prestige. In law, which is a profession that likes such factors, the "G5" law schools of Oxford, Cambridge, the LSE and UCL are probably the best in the UK. While King's is not a "G5", it is a member of the "golden triangle". So, the "G5":
- Oxford
- Cambridge
- UCL
- the LSE
- Imperial (no law school!).

The schools you mention, particularly Durham and Nottingham are great, but, naturally, the G5 and golden triangle schools are more prestigous and "known". Edinburgh is also very good. In the common law world, any "golden triangle" is fine. Anything else, and people assume you couldn't get in! (which would be annoying!). Money is not that much difference, only a little more expensive if you play your cards right.

RE scholarships: it will depend on the terms of the scholarship and in particular their closing dates.
Re value of going to London, I think that depends on where you are coming from. If you are staying in the UK, I remain far from convinced that you have to restrict yourself to the so-called 'golden triangle' especially if you are talking about having offers from places like Edinburgh etc. I think what you study and how well you do. From my perspective if I'm given a choice of a student with good marks from Edinburgh, Bristol, Manchester etc against someone with mediocre marks from e.g. LSE, I'll go for the one with the good marks.

Yes, there are scholarships, but you really need to get moving if you want to go in September. Deadlines will be very soon. Contact the various universities to find out about their own scholarships and others. They all have lists of these.
